I got my Leupold M2 MRT yesterday.
The glass is very bright and clear and I am happy with it.
The sight is very fast on target at 1.5power, the eye relief is a not terribly picky but more so (obviously than a reflex). The reticle is fine enough that it gives a very precise aiming point where dot sights for me don't. I would be tempted to say that I could clear rooms with it, but I would probably end up using a red laser or point shooting at 7yds and less [indoors].
I was also impressed with the Larue SPR mount. The two lower screws on the ring halfs get tightened and then the scope is held snug for leveling-- past work with vertically seperated ring halvs had me wary , but these blew them and the old horizontally split rings out of the water. Litterally the most precise and easy to level mounting system I have ever used.
Anyway that is my solution to the best overall compromise optic for now. I might consider the 1-4 Elcan later but I'm guessing the price will be really high in the $1500 range.
