Mr. LaRue is a perfectionist. Even though he and his team have put out some of the best tactical gear on the planet they don't sit around patting themselves on the back. If something can be enhanced they do it.
Which leads us to the next generation of Aimpoint Standard Mount. A couple key changes have been made to it that will add strength, dependability and capability to the already excellent mount. C4 www.GRTactical.com Strength: LaRue built one of the rings DIRECTLY into the mount. This will also aid in the installation process (making it easier).   Capability: LaRue moved the rings forward to the front of the mount which made room for a spare battery compartment. Now you can carry a spare Aimpoint battery inside the mount (which saves you from having to buy an Aimpoint spare battery module). By moving the rings forward you can now flip the Aimpoint covers down and they will not hit the LT BUIS (or any other BUIS that doesn't extend past the T2 slot).   Dependability: LaRue added their retention system to their FULLY ADJUSTABLE LEVER which virtually gurantees that it will not open.     |

I'm thinking LaRue should issue version numbers for all their stuff. As noted, they upgrade/improve their shit so often that if you see for instance a "LaRue Aimpoint Mount" on the EE, you really have no idea what you're getting.

When will this improved version be availble since I need an Aimpoint mount and I like the locking lever (I have an SPR mount with it )?

Looks like a few great upgrades!! Moving it forward would have been cool in itself, that they took advantage of the space and added a battery compartment is excellent!

For once, procrastinating has worked out in my favor. If I'd have bought the original style, I'd be wanting to get this one now. Maybe by the time I get around to replacing my ARMS #22M68, Larue will have an even better model available.

I am saving all of my first-run LaRue stuff. With the contant product development they do, one day the Smithsonian is going to want to see how it all started. And I'll be there with my early editions.....and there will be a little plaque in the case that says: "Exhibit courtesy of Mcgrubbs." |

I was late getting on the LaRue bandwagon, but I certainly regret that decision now. The products are a cut above anything else on the market. Every single LaRue product I own is absolutely flawless, both in its design and construction.

Any reasons why Larue wanted to make some of these imrpovements? The new battery compartment seems like a really neat feature as does the retention system. I also like how the caps won't hit your BUIS when flipped downward which is really a neat feature. I do not understand why LaRue made one of the rings built directly into the mount. Were users having their rings break off of the mount? What I mean to say is that did any customer feedback go into the making of this mount? If so, what are some of the problems on the older style that users can look out for until they can save to buy the newer versions?

Its cool an all. Great to see a company "improving" their products.
But how much are these "improvements" going to cost? The old mount worked, the new mount will work. I am just wondering how much it will cost us in the end. I can live without a spare battery compartment if it saves me $20. Will they still offer the old style? When does the new design replace the older one? |

First, there is nothing wrong with the old model. LaRue wanted to add some enhancements to the mount. About the only issue people had with the older mounts is that fact that they didn't read the instructions and were not mounting the Aimpoint correctly. By building one of the rings into the mount it will make it easier for them to install. This design also saves a bit of machining time and splits the anodizing costs. C4 |

You should see around a $20-$30 dollar price increase on all LT mounts in the near future. The Aimpoint DBM retails at $33 so it a complete wash as far as I am concerned. LT will NOT be making the older model. C4 |

I don't believe so. The main reason is because it's not economically feasible. Guys mounting scopes are, for the most part, read the mounting instuctions (which they are not doing with the Aimpoint mount). C4 |

Hey Grant,
Will these sit up even or flush with the top of the receiver like the cantilever does? In your pictures it looks like it might sit one slot further forward. When will these start showing up? |

They will not sit flush. Now you can push it forward one slot and you would have some slight over hang on the edge of the receiver. These will show up by the end of the week I think. C4 |

Is the throw lever locking mechanism going to be standard for all other civilian throw lever mounts (i.e. 4XDOS...), or still just a "Military-Only" item?

Well, I don't think my LaRue mounts came with any instructions, so it did take me some tinkering (all fun to me) to get it right. My first order from Grant did come with a LaRue bottle opener, so I forgive them

The new Aimpoint mount is on my must have list. I look at the additional battery compartment on the mount as a second spare cause I'm the kind of guy who would be anal enough to also have the Aimpoint battery module too.
The thing on the throw lever that says "open", is that something that can be retrofitted onto existing mounts? If so, will Mr. Larue make these available? |

odd place for a spare battery. Why wouldnt he put it on the side? removing optics from a combat rifle is asking for trouble even with this return to zero technology (call me old fashion)

The reason it was put there was because of strength. The other benefit of it being there is if it were to come loose the rail would hold the battery compartment closed. In a combat situation, you wouldn't be changing your battery out if your Aimpoint went dead. You would transition to your BUIS's and stay in the fight (call me old fashioned). C4 |

This is really a non issue (about having to re-zero your Aimpoint) as the LT mount returns to 100% zero. So take the mount off (to get to the battery compartment) with no fear of losing your zero. C4 |

I have a Larue Aimpoint low mount for my RAS II upper. They are not kidding when they say 100% repeat zero. All my future mounts will Larue.
I have plenty of ARMS mounts and must state I never had any problems with repeat zero or coming loose. Then again, I don't beat on them like some of the serious tactical shooters do. |
