that thing is gorgeous, and looks like it will be quite handy. but i am sure pricey. still, it should be able to compete with the ACOG if the quality is good enough. ETA: just saw it is a 'specter', it's not one of their thermal scopes, is it? |

The whole rifle scope line, including NV is called Specter.
The DR is a heavy scope, at 22 oz. Retail should be around 1800-2000.....oribably a lot hgiher initially due to demand. ELCAN expects to ahve commerical supply available around the new year. At the moment, they have preproduction units out for testing with .mil types. See that lever between the throw-levers for the mount....I'm betting that's the lever that switches between 1x and 4x. My bet....? A prism system as found in vehicular sights. Simon |

$2000 for a scope that has its adjustments in the base instead of internal?
22oz for a 1-4X variable? Hope it has some features not yet known to exist because that souds like crap compared to the S&B it competes against. |

590 grammes if you work in Metric. The 1800-2000 number is mine. I know what the price is going to be for several hundred, just not ONE. I'm factoring a nice slice of greed for profit and attendance.
I'm hoping to have some people eyeball it in the flesh before too long. Unfortunately this will be conducted by remote.......  .It's more like a Aimpoint with integral mag at the flick of a lever rather than a 30mm variable. I thinkt eh mag gives you BAC goodness with more flexibility in term sof indexing and eye relief. I'm witholding judgement till I get a first ahdn report. |

I do believe I'd stick with my M2 and TA31. If I didn't have all the Aimpoints and ACOGs already, I'd buy an M2 and TA31, and still be left with some frogs with which to buy some ammo
I'm not one to complain about optic prices, but it does seem pretty steep for what it is. |

+1 I still have a few others things to save my pennies for ahead of something like this...but I saw this in the PDF someone posted in another thread and said how interesting I thought it looked. It does look pretty cool. It seems as though the military is doing a lot w/ ARMS mounts lately, as this and the new EOTech 553 will have ARMS throw lever mounts. |

Its actually less expensive than a S&B plus mount and weighs less too. However it would have to do a lot before I could swallow external adjustments.

I was at the Army Expo in DC today and got to fondle one on a Blue M4 mockup.
IT'S NICE. The 1x to 4x is very cool. Unit was solid. Not too heavy. It also has an illuminated reticle as well. Overall image thru optic was bright and clear. There is a red dot at the middle of a set of illuminated crosshairs with a 600m ballistic drop reticle on the lower verticle crosshair. I THOUGHT the Elcan rep said MSRP $1200.00 but don't quote me. |

The SOPMOD.pdf that was posted here showed the Elcan as ACOG competition with the winner continuing on until the end of the M4s useful life. Either way the ACOG gets the Doctor Optics dot on top.
It also showed the Eotech has already replaced the aimpoint. |

The one Elcan I've looked through was amazing...the clarity of the glass and the brightness were off the charts compared to anything else I've looked through, which includes a Nightforce and a Schmidt and Bender.
I've been kicking myself in the ass for a year for not snagging one off the EE for $400 last year. I'm sure this new one is amazing. Guess I'll go buy me a lottery ticket today...maybe I'll get lucky, and can afford to buy one! |

I got a used one a while back, it is very clear optics for sure, mine was made in '95. I got it to put on a M-4, but it weighs 1lb. 4 oz. I like my carbine light and simple, so i put it on a 20" RRA a-4 and DON'T plan on taking it off. I have only used it at 100 yds. but will get to shoot out to 5 or 6 this weekend. It is doing 1 to 1 1/4 " at 100 so far, it has a pointed post reticle that is easy to aquire. I was suprised that it got as good of groups as my 8x Leupold does. It seems paralex free at any distance, don't know how they do it, but i am impressed. Best $400.00 i have spent in a long time. Later, W.B.

Oh well, that's not any worse than Nightforce... I was told a year ago that "it'll be out after SHOT". At least somebody's getting the stuff. And I guess if it's the guys using them to shoot ROPers, that's understandable. They need 'em a lot more than I do. But it is frustrating anyway. |
