What is the point of the carry handle if it will be carried to its destination of use via the trunk of a car? Will the carry handle be removable? The acog on top of the carry handle does not allow you to rest your cheek on the stock (it sits too high). I would cantalever mount an aimpoint if your engagement will be 150 yrds or less.
ETA. I do think that is great they are finally arming you properly in this state, now hopfully they don't have to lay the other half of you guys off.  You are in Indy, Right?

I would go with the Aimpoint (because of the battery life). You turn it on at the beginning of your shift and then turn it off at the end. So it is always on and ready to go (one less thing you have to remember to do in a stressful situation). C4 |

Congratulations on being allowed the proper tools to do your job effectively.
I think if you have the option of any optic, figure out what the likely scenarios will be and go from there. If you envision 300 yard shots over an open corn field, you may want to consider a magnified (ACOG ) optic, if you think that is pretty far fetched, save yourself the money (I assume this will come out of your pocket. Protect and serve and get yourself safely home at night, these go hand in hand, it's a shame you'll have to spend your own money to make BOTH happen, but ) and go Aimpoint. Where I live an LEO could find himself in a crowded casino, an open parking garage, a wooded tree line, an open meadow or a sage covered desert basin, all within 20 minutes of each other, so a case can be made for either optic. Choose what suits your needs best and good luck. The afforementioned is obviously just my opinion, but I personally chose the TA31 ACOG, and I am not LE. |

They're actually pointing them at taiwan,  now that the US have all their military in iraq.China and Northkorea are a real problem. But I don't think a few tacpoints will make a difference. |

There is a Japanese Tacpoint also, which is likely higher quality than the Chinese one:

That is simply rediculous. The Tacpoint has NO record of reliability to compare to what the Aimpoint has seen with the military and law enforcement. The Aimpoint dominates the red-dot market with its battery life. He posted a question about a rifle thats has the potential to be used for serious life-or-death purposes and we're playing the cheap-SHIT game again. You want to recommend Tacpoints for range toys, thats just fine, but that IS NOT what this discussion is about. |

Aimpoint no doubt.
It combines speed, and accuracy. In a law enforcement situation, I cannot think of more than one or two situations where you should even consider making a shot past 100M. The aimpoint will dominate any situation in terms of speed at close range, which is most likely where any incident would occur. I own a few tacpoints, and while fine for the range, when your life counts on it, whats a few hundred dollars extra? Any rifle that I would knowingly take into combat or use in a defensive scenario would wear an aimpoint. If I had to grab a tacpoint equipt rifle, I'd make sure I could access the irons VERY quickly, or remove the damn thing all together since I haven't had much of a chance to see what they are truly capable of yet. Until I do, I will NOT risk it, and neither should you. |

I doub't they have the best tires on their police cars. I doubt they have Mercedes AMG police cars. There is nothing wrong with recommending a cheap optic to someone on a budget. I only object to clone products. If they want to buy Bushnell Turkey scopes for $100 that is ok.

I have a real dislike for Aimpoints mounted anywhere except for the top of the receiver. I especially hate the ARMS carry handle mount that hangs the Aimpoint over the handguards.
The mini ACOG is the only way to go for an optic on top of the carry handle. |

Would make sense if AMG's were only a few dollars more than crown vics... Bottom line is, its an extra 200-250 dollars ONCE. If you can't afford an aimpoint now, then keep saving until you can. |

tacpoint is just as reliable , excuse me (nah you better not cause i dont care) its been thrown arond banged around heated froze and it still comes out with flying colors doesnt loose its zero
for as much action as he will see with it its best bang for his buck, i dont see aimpoint quaranting a lifetime warranty on their stuff, wait why would they they allready charge 300 dollars more |

Even if it does, battery life is still an issue. The aimpoint has alot better battery life. That alone makes the price tag worth it when your life, and others, are on the line. Scott |

yeah it is cheap, cheap in the pocket,
so you change batteries once a month or have it checked before you go out. just like checking to make sure your gun works before going to duty or do you just hope it does? just cause you wanna think your bad ass cause you own a aimpoint, my tacpoint will do the same thing your aimpoint will do , so get over your aipoint is better shit talk. |

You are correct. ANYTHING CAN break. As a general rule, a mount that costs under $25 or an optic priced at $100 is NOT going to give you the same quality and reliability as say a LaRue Tactical mount and an Aimpoint. The LT mount and Aimpoint are both combat proven. How about your cheap mount and tacpoint??? And no, dropping it at the range or sitting outside for the night does not make it "tough enough" for duty or combat use.  C4 |

Damn. this shit again. The man asked a simple question. More than likely he will be sharing the rifle with others if it is Deptartment owned. I have used a Tacpoint on a duty weapon before, it always held zero. If your set up co-witnesses you can always check if the dot has moved by aligning it with your irons. Aimpoint is superior,but for god sakes quit breaking balls about it.

There is a really good review in this forum about the tacpoint. It has it's place for sporting/huntig and I might get one (in Hong Kong) and maybe sell it later and get a comp M3. What's the point of saving only 250$ when your life is at stake? By the way - In my town the police aren't driving Mercedes AMG either, but BMW 3. Wish I had one

The eothingy is fine as well. You need a rail forend for that unit I think, never seen it mounted on the carry handle.. Will you have to share this weapon?

I prefer the controls of the Aimpoint, the centered dot, the tube design, the reticle, etc. I also believe that the Aimpoint is more durable. |
