Convince me to get the TA01NSN instead of the TA31F?

It's so hard to wait for the TA31F to be in stock, the TA01NSN is plenty available and cheap too, I want an ACOG and patience is not one of my virtues :D The ACOG with be mounted on a flattop on my M4A3 14.5" barrel.

TA31x is just better than TA01... except if you love the crosshair. But you give up day time illumination and some speed.

The TA01NSN is a good scope and has its place, I don't regret having bought it.

I have a TA01 and an NSN version and both a great scopes. I haven't invested in a TA31 myself since I don't do much "action" type shooting and mostly use the crosshairs on stationery targets. If you're going to be using it for hunting or moving type targets the TA31 is the way to go, where you ned a quick sight picture and to shoot with both eyes open. I actually prefer the standard TA01 red reticle over the smaller and slightly dimmer yellow of the NSN.

Just try the NSN or the 01. If you do not like it, you can always sell it. It is a matter of personal preference. Some like the donut, triangle and some are great shoots with the crosshair.

Sweet, as for the chevron, where is the center where you aim it at? Is it under the upside down V and above the vertical red line? As for the 4 and 6, is that x100 meters in which to aim upwards for long distance shots?

You use the tip of the chevron to aim. The stadia lines are range finders, it's approximately the width of a man's shoulders. For longer ranges simply use the reticles below the chevron to aim.

You're supposed to be aiming at the homeless bums, not the lifeguards! (Or are you just "spotting" the Baywatch types?)

There's nothing wrong with the NSN, its just not suited to certain roles that the 11's and 31's (and compacts) can fill for a little more money. I'd suggest getting some shooting time behind them before you make such a big purchase. Simply holding one up at a gun show or store isn't enough, you have to actually use it to see what works for you.

dang, grab it while you can! Wish I got my TA01NSN for so little

I had to put the TA31F on an ottoman with one hand while holding the camera with the other, so I had only a rough idea where it was pointing

In any case, using the range finder to judge the approx. distance (i'd say 900yds), if I use the chevron it would have fallen way short

It's Malibu, home of the rich (not me) and liberals (definitely not me!)

if you have a m4 you want fast... not accurate... well... accurate enough... but fast! the donut is the fastest...

I've gotten submoa out to 300 and 1.5 moa out to 600 with a TA31 donut. KevinB won a precision rifle match with his TA31. In my book, thats better than accurate enough. I honestly dont believe the TA31 reticles are not accurate. I do believe that a crosshair makes it "easier" to be accurate, but a good shooter can work almost any reticle. When shooting for accuracy (especially for accuracys sake), most times you are afforded the opportunity to take extra time and work the reticle. With a donut this is all you need to achieve the same or VERY similar types of accuracy.

Come to think of it, maybe saying the BAC reticles are slower to be accurate but faster at everything else and the nsn reticle is faster to be accurate and slower than everything else is a better description than saying the nsn reticle is more accurate but slower o use and the TA31 reticles are less accurate but faster.

Wow, thats a mouthful! Im sure theres a better way to write that without having it be all one sentence, but hopefully you know what I mean.

I went crosseyed reading that! lol

But I sign onto the bottom line. Personally I prefer the TA31F....

But I'm also a guy that sold his TA31 donut to purchase an Aimpoint and a complete 20" A2 rifle. Couldn't be happier either. My M4 is built for speed and shooting 0-200 yards. My A2 is my 'old faithful.'

I'm a pretty good shot out to 400 yards with my irons. Anything beyond that I high tail it for my 270!

OK, thinkning about my jumble mouth train of thought a little more, I came up with this...

TA31 requires a little more time to be very accurate, but much less time for everything else.
TAO1 series requires less time to be very accurate, but is considerably slower for everything else.

Whaddaya think?

I've got the same problem. I'm looking at both the TA01B and the TA31? with the .308 BDC.

I'm concerned about eye relief and general sight picture. It's a lotta bucks to drop on the wrong thing!
