HELP! I thought I knew what I wanted-i.e. to get a Leupold for my just completed SPR. However, talking to hunting circles I just got into a spin since the feedback I got from multiple owners of these brands did not seem to converge to a common answer.

Question is - if you were to buy only one scope on a $400 budget, which one is best suited for a SPR rig if shooting mainly in the 100-500m range? Would appreciate to hear from guys who have owned more than one (better if they have owned all) of the above scopes.

I found Some Kick Ass Scopes in your price range . I have a Really Nasty Scope Fettish so I wont BS ya .  Any way If you get a Leupold you can add Target Knobs To It Later and The same As A Burris  as for the reticle on Leupold you can have them changed later on to suit your needs

Bushnell Elite 4200. I'd look at the 2.5x10 and 1.5x6. The Elites are the best in their price class.

Now we're getting somewhere! I didn't anticipate that my question would pose more immediate replies from merchants rather than users but hardly surprising.

Interesting that you raised the Bushnell being better than the Leupy, one of my dad's old mates who has been thru lots of scopes said that as well. Gathering from another thread that Springfield optics are to be avoided (sad coz they have one of the better specs- on paper), at least solutions are beginning to converge.

Another good scope to look at might be the Burris Fullfield II with the ballistic plex reticle. I believe they run somewhere around $250. I have the Bushnell Elite 4200 on my .270 for deer hunting and it's a good scope, but for an AR I'd rather take the Burris with the ballistic plex reticle. I believe you can even get that scope in an illuminated reticle version too.

Trijicon ACCUPOINT. Variable power (either 1.25-4 or 3-9) and BAC. I have a TR21R on my custom 18.5" BM, great eye relief to boot. The new generation (you can tell by the mag adjust ring [new/rubber coated] [old/metal]) also have finger adjustable windage and elevation.

Accupoint for $400...where you shopping?
