Mr. LaRue contacted me and wanted everyone to know that if you have a LaRue Tactical Mount (SPR, Aimpoint, etc) and they have the black hardware you need to remove the TORX screws and degrease (clean them) and re-apply the loc tite. There is a film on them that won't allow your loc tite to take hold and could possibly come loose....

I thought it was common practice to always clean the screws before applying Lok Tite. I always use a little isopropyl alcohol.

Well it might be, but Mr. LaRue just wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of this possible problem. He will be cleaning each and everyone in the future so this won't be an issue again.....

I kind of liked the bronze hardware, anyway. It was distinctively LaRue. The folks that complained about it not being black didn't have much of valid argument, IMO. I tiny little bronze screw head is not going to give you away, but your big ol' white (typically) head sure will.

Your welcome. I like the bronze HW as well. What is funny is that people think that black is the best color for hiding their location when in all actuality it is the WORST...

Yet another reason why I like LaRue products. Mark LaRue stands behind his stuff and if there is the slightest problem he addresses it and takes care of the problem. Good job Mark and Company!!!

You can use alcohol or anything even gun scrubber will work. It won't effect the TORX screws at all...

Thanks for the info Grant. I should have been more clear in my first post. Does the torx screw housing (the metal portion on the mount that the torx screw, screws into) have to be degreased as well?

Sorry Jeff, yes do clean the nut as well (bascially anything that loc tite would come into contact with).

Yep...good call. I first learned about this on Sniper's Hide, but it's good to see a thread about this here as well. I used a cotton swab dipped in 95% alcohol to clean my housings and scrubbed my screws with a toothbrush/alcohol...they've been rock solid ever since.
