ive got a NIB 700PSS ive had for about 2 years  (dont ask) and i want to hurry up and get it scoped for the ARFCOM GA-gang shoot this weekend. ive got a Super-sniper from SWFA but no mounting hardware. i think the badger stuff is a bit of overkill and i was thinking leupold might do the trick. but i have questions

i have a short action right?

is the loopy stuff from bass-pro walmart going to be the same as i would get from SWFA? or are there different grades?

what rings should i get? medium or high?

whats the best set up i can get for around $100, maybe $150

The Leupold rings and mounts are fine. I like the one piece, but either one is good. If you have a .308, you have the short action.

I use Smith Enterprise's one piece Picatinney mount and ARMS #22 high rings.  I was told to get the one piece as it's more rigid, by our precision rifle instructor who trains the LAPD SWAT.

On all of my bolt action rifles, I mount the scope as low as possible.  I have three bolt guns right now and it was trial and error trying to get the scopes as low as possible.  Luckily for me, Cabelas is 15min down the road and they have an awesome return policy.

I would not hesitate to use Leupold products, no matter where you get them from.  My only recommendation would be to keep the scope as low as possible.

are the medium height rings enough to clear the 42mm objective lens?

What you need to worry about is if they're high enough so the bolt will clear the rear.  Not only cycle, but removal as well.

Quoted:
Mediums will work.  If you are putting it on a blot gun .885" rings.  Leupold or ARMS.
