Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - scope recomendations

I have a flattop 20" that needs a scope.  The thing is it will be a present and they will spend around $250.  I will use it mainly at the range to shoot paper.  I have looked at Leupold VX1 and the Nikons.  What is the best deal for me?  I do want a variable powerd scope.  Any suggestions?

For that amount of money, I would definately look at the Burris Fulfield II scopes.  They have a 3x9 with a ballistic plex reticle.  I had one and it was a real good scope.
