I'm excited I guess to get my TA31 that I'm embarassed to say I paid way too much for off of the EE, but it's only money and at least I don't have to wait on the group buy anymore. This rifle (well the upper) will be going with me when I deploy sometime next year so it's all money well spent.

I have my RAS M5 now Thanks Bradd_D on the EE, ARMS #19 from EBAY for $99 , and of course the rifle. It's a 20" GI profile (light under handguards, heavy out front) barrel and Bushmaster A4 upper. I'll be using a military issue three point sling that I see the Marines have down range in Iraq too.

I've seen alot of these rifles in various pic's from A'Stan and Iraq awhile back but nothing lately. Please help a guy out and see what's in your hardrive and post you SAM (squad advanced marksman) pic's.

Thanks,
Mark

What you describe is not a SAM-R, but what will eventually be carried by all Marine riflemen.

I have an A4gery and a SAM-R upper waiting for the ban sunset for full assembly.  SAM-R still lacks optics and BUIS, but I'm shopping for them right now.  A pic of my progress so far.

Ya, ya...............I know................a REAL SAM-R has a KAC FSB with a bayonet lug.  Well, I can't have one!  So I installed the next best thing.

What would be the proper name then cause that's what I'm talking about?

USMC03 and Lumpy have 'em I think and here's a cool pic of what I mean some of you may have seen:

Never found a hi-res of it  hr

Well, too bad.
This smoke in his hand, while aiming reminds me of Vietnam. Don't really know why.

I'm a mechanical journeyman at a nuke plant.  Lots of OT pays for most of my toys.

Not with an ACOG but a SAM-R nevertheless:

Damn!! They have to pay pretty well on nuke plants. Well, there is no pockets on shrouds and it is good excuse to spend our money.

Mongo and M4arc

Which barrel did you use for your Sam-Rs?  M4 is that that GG&G front sight and which model Leupy is that?
Those are kick ass rifles

- I used a SS Wilson, 1:7 twist, KG coated barrel from ADCO.

- Yes it is a GG&G front sight with bayo lug.

here is my contribution,,,the forward pistol grip was added for effect, not sure if i really like it yet though.  also, this rifle has also seen time with a CAR15 stock but the balance is all wrong. it looks cools but feel is off. the only benefit to the collapsing stock is to adjust the length of pull but i see the marines have overcome that.

OT, but does the sling attachement on the GG&G come off or is it pinned like a regular one. I really like the look of it, but the sling mount would kill the FF of the barrel. If it is pinned in place like a regular one, would it come off as easy?

NAG - The sling attachment can be removed, it's bolted on using two small allen screws.  I plan to remove it this weekend when I sit down to clean it.

I'm not sure yet.  I've only had it for two weeks now but I've only been home for one of those.  I was able to run 60 rounds through it on the 25/50 yards range to dial in the BUIS but when I moved to the 100 yard range it started dumping cats and dogs so I had to bail.  I'm hoping to go this weekend and if I do I'll keep you posted.

Thanks.  I am thinking about builiding my SAM-R with the wilson bbl.  Actualy it will be very similer to yours but I may go with the PRI flip up front.  I guess you will be my guinea pig.

thank lumpy, always nice to get an "atta boy" from you!

the old 1in12 skinny barrel helps keep the weight down too.  i should try another one without the FF RAS,  now we're talkin' light! but hten i wouldn't be able to attach the flashlight .

Hey, when I saw this thread again I was whoa what's this thing doing here! I did get my TA31 donut of death shortly there after and maybe you've already seen it but here it the finished product.

Colt Gov profile 1/7 20" barrel
RAS M5
ARMS#40 L
ARMS#19 ACOG mount

Shoots great. I do notice during the recoil impulse while looking through the scope it jumps up and to the left just so much to move it off of target at longer ranges. Thinking about giving the A2 FS a quarter turn to redirect the gasses up to the left of center to counter act this.

mk1iii,

if your not worried about flash suppression, have you ever thought about a true compensator?  seems like 20" tubes don't flash that much anyway.

BTW, nice rifle! i need a sling like yours. how do you like it?

I just sold my A4gery upper.

It's going to a LT who is being deployed to Iraq.  I'm sad, but happy that it is going to someone who will actually use it.

Thanks for the upper Ray! Quite a few of my soldiers ended up buying their own equipment i.e. AImpoints etc.  because the Army takes awhile and we may not get items i.e. armored HUMVEEs!!!
