I run a standard A-2 front sight, Arms 40, and Eotech right on the upper. I zeroed the iron sights and then installed the Eotech sight and adjusted it to match the irons. Once the Eotech is zeroed it doesn't matter if you can see the center dot with your irons. You can move your head where ever and still be zeroed. I shoot it rear sight down and I never have a problem with the front sight base in the way. You won't notice it if your watching the target and putting the dot on it. If you are looking for the front sight base then you will see it. I don't personally need the extra height of a spacer.

WITH A FIXED FRONT SIGHT TOWER, THE LARUE IS A MUST, REAR SIGHT UP OR STOWED.
EUGENE STONER DESIGNED THE AR-15 WITH THE AXIS OF THE IRON SIGHTS AT AN ERGONOMICALLY CORRECT HEIGHT ABOVE THE COMB OF THE FIXED STOCK. THE FLAT TOP UPPER EVOLVED FROM THE CARRY HANDLE DESIGN, AND THE COLLAPSABLE STOCK CAME ALONG, BUT THE AXIS OF THE SIGHTS STAYED RELATIVELY THE SAME WITH RESPECT TO THE COMB OF THE STOCK. IF YOU MEASURE THE HEIGHT OF ANY DETACHABLE IRON SIGHT APERTURES OR THAT OF A DETACHABLE CARRY HANDLE ABOVE THE FLAT TOP RECEIVER, YOU'LL GET 1.4". THIS IS WHY THE AIMPOINT MOUNT DESIGNS BY AIMPOINT (WITH SPACER!), ARMS (WITH FULL SPACER), KNIGHT'S (STRAIGHT OR CNTILEVER, NOT LOW PROFILE), LARUE (TALL), PRI (TALL), WILCOX, ETC., ARE FROM 1.55" TO 1.7125" ON THEIR CENTERLINE. WITH THE AIMPOINT DOT CENTERED IN THE TUBE, THIS ALLOWS YOU TO LOOK SLIGHTLY OVER YOUR IRON SIGHTS. PROBLEM: THE EOTECH LENS CENTERLINE IS 1.4" ABOVE THE FLAT TOP. WITH ITS DOT CENTERED, YOU'RE ALSO LOOKING THROUGH YOUR IRON SIGHTS, NOT OVER THEM. CLUTTER. LIMITED FIELD OF VIEW. SOLUTION: THE LARUE EOTECH MOUNT, RAISES THE EOTECH CENTERLINE THE CORRECT AMOUNT TO SEE THE IRON SIGHTS IN THE LOWER THIRD OF THE EOTECH LENS FIELD OF VIEW. JUST MY OPINION, OF COURSE. WES |

Thanks for the thoughts Wes.
That confirms what I was thinking, that the Eotech and other red dots work better when the field of view is unobstructed. True, you do not notice the front sight post when shooting at larger sized targets, but if you have a finer target to hit, the post does get in the way. |

THAT'S WHY I CONSIDER THE LARUE EOTECH MOUNT TO BE A MUST WITH THE EOTECH WHEN SHOOTING AT FINER TARGETS.

Wes, if I put the EOTech/LaRue combo on an SF M73, will it raise the sight enough so the irons are in the lower 1/3 (or does it raise just enough to sit the dot on top of the front sight post)?

just got my les baer ar15 thunder ranch and a eo 511- mounted the eo just in front of the carry handle on the flat top and it lined up perfectly with the iron sights. very minor adjusting of the eo and its dead on.didnt need a lerue -just clamped it right to the rail and away you go

The EOTech will co-witness if placed DIRECTLY ONTO YOUR Flattop. The problem is that the bottom half of the 65MOA outer circle is blocked by the front sight tower. The EOTech also has NO QD/100% repeat zero capability. The LaRue Tactical EOTech mount fixes both of these issues.... C4 www.gandrtactical.com

I have ARMS #40 flip up, and 512 EO Tech. Will the LaRue EO Tech mount work the same (co- witness over the front sight) if it is mounted on the front portion of the ARMS bi-level SIR # 50?
What about mounting the EO Tech on the ARMS #45 SIR in front of the rear flip up? Is the ARMS #45 SIR the same .275 height as the LaRue mount? Mike |

NO TO THE FIRST QUESTION.
NO TO THE SECOND QUESTION. THE ARMS SIR RAIL IS 0.46" ABOVE THE FLAT TOP. EOTECHS AND SIRS ARE NOT REALLY THAT COMPATIBLE. THE ONLY WAY I KNOW OF THAT AN EOTECH WILL EVEN MOUNT TO A SIR AND ALLOW COWITNESSING IS WITH THE EOTECH MOUNTED DIRECTLY ON THE FORWARD RAIL PORTION OF A #50, #58, #58-MOD, OR #59. I THINK THIS IS WAY TOO FAR FORWARD. ALSO, THE EOTECH MOUNT WOULD PLACE THE EOTECH TOO HIGH IN THESE SIR APPLICATIONS. STICK WITH AIMPOINTS ON SIRS. WES |

EoTech's and the Bi-level SIRs work very well together. Extremely so.
Simply put, he bi-level SIR is one of the best options out there for an EOTech. The mounting position out front is the best place an EOTech can be on an M4 type rifle. Take a look at some of the HSLD photos. That being said, where it goes is up to your personal comfort zone. |
