While it might helpful if your older eye'd like myself, I still shoot out to the 1000 yard line w/ a 4.5x14 Leupy. Power is not necessary to shoot the short ranges your looking to shoot, unless your intending to use your rifle scope for spotting.......
BTW a fixed power 20x scope will be tough to use for anything other than benchrested shooting and while I only know Leupold, the varible scope will be much more user friendly, IMO. Mike |

In the price range you are talking about I like the Super Sniper,
I have no experience with the 20X but The 10X I own is a very good scope. |

You should be able to get a Leupold VX2 in your price range (maybe a little more), definitely could get a used one. It would certainly beat the heck out of a Trashco or Sightnon.
 .Of the choices you list, the Weaver is the superior glass. |

Sightron gets a lot of good press from shooters on other forums.
I'm looking for a good price for a Sightron SII 4-16x42mm mildot for my RRA 20" Varmint. Where did you see the 6-24 for $350? I've seen the 4-16 MD for $358-$422. |

If you are shooting 100 to 350 yards I would not recommend a 20x fixed. I would recommend a variable. If you were going for a fixed I would recommend on more than a 16x at the most.

I have a 3-9 x40 Leupold VX-I And last time at the range I couldn't see the 8-10 ring at 300 yds (and yes the target was a 100yd target . ) My eyes just would not focas past the 7 ring .That's why I'm gonna go to a more powerful scope .I want to be able to see a crisp x ring and not just guess at where I am shooting.I have looked at some diffrent scopes and the 20+ seems to do well with my sight .If I need less power I can always crank it down .exept the S/S which is why I will likely not get a S/S the Weaver or Sightron will fill my need ok I think .

i have the super sniper in 10x and love it only been out to 100yds though but it was a clear 100yds sight

I've used my Tasco SS 10X out to 500 yards with no problems.
I have a Sightron SII 3-9X42 as well which has very clear optics, but very thick duplex lines (the version you are interested in may differ from the one I have) that I wouldn't want to use for target shooting past a couple hundred yards. |

At first I looked at the Super Sniper 10X, then since most of my shooting will be 100-300 yds at paper with the occasional longer range, I decided on variable. So, I looked at the Burris Fullfield II package deal 4.5-14x with spotter. Then I found info. on the Sightron mil dot with target turrets, etc.
Decisions, decisions. I don't really need another spotting scope, but could sell it. Will the Sightron SII 4-16x42mm mildot dots or thickness of the reticle obsure the bull at distance? I have it down to these two scope choices for my RRA 20" Varmint setup (though, won't be doing any varmint shooting around here; no rifle hunting in MA, except blackpowder). |

I looked and looked for a used Burris or any 20 power loopy and found squat. Of course after I ordered a Sightron both a Leupold and aburris that would have fit my need came up on the E.E.
 That's not the bad part .The prices where almost the exact same as the one I ordered.But now that the scope I ordered is here I'll try it out . Look for me to post a rewiew of it here after I mount it and take it to the range .I see this morning Midway has Leupold Mk4 for 300.00 off still to high for me but one of you guys might be in the market.www.midwayusa.com/emailshowpage/9012004/100740299 |
