I'll be using this upper almost exclusively for hunting.

Would a Trijicon ACOG be a wise choice? Which model/reticle/etc would be best? I'm a little dizzy from looking at all the options.

Also how would these two optics compare...Trijicon Accupoint TR21R (1.25-4x24 w/1" tube) vs. IOR Valdada Tactical (1.1-4x26 w/30mm tube)?

Any other suggestions?

I'm going through about the same thing right now with my .50 Beowulf... Trying to decide on an optic is not so easy!  Like you, my .50 will be for hunting, whitetail and hog, and considering the round and the area I hunt, 150 yards will be a LONG shot.  I looked at most of the options and the Leupold M8 2.5X20 really has my interest right now.  I plan on an extended rail to get the scope a bit out over the handguards and into a proper position and like you I don't see the advantage or point of a high magnification/large objective scope on these types of weapons, I'm more interested in a solid, reliable scope that can take the recoil and not come apart in a few years.  The Leupold 2.5 sees a great deal of use on heavy recoiling dangerous game rifles and their warranty can't be beat by anyone...

I'll be curious in the replys you receive as well...

I'm going to try a Leupold 1.5-5x20(1 inch tube) in an Armalite 1-piece mount on my 458.  I hope it'll take the recoil.  

If the Loopy craps out, I have an Aimpoint/GG&G cantilever setup to try.

Leupold VXIII 1.5 X 5 or VXII 1X4 both work well.   The 1.5 X 5 with PRW rings is on a high rise upper.  Good news about this scope is long eye relief as you don't want a portion of the objective anywhere near your face (risk is higher to do damage to it than the leupold).  Have the same scope in a one piece mount on a .223 flat-top as well, similar to what Cixelsyd plans.  

Cons to this set up are 1" tube with limited MOA adjustment.  I've run out of "up" on the .458 on some loads.  A 30 mm tube like the 1.75 X 6 should take care of that issue.  There is at least one 20 MOA canted one piece base but not for the high rise.

Leupold say VX-III  1.5 - 5 uses 30mm. tube. Can be had circle dot illuninated. F.O.V. listed as 65/23. This is very interesting, and will be hard to choose the latest, more expensive low power Night Force over it.  Got to love those N.F. reticles though.

I have posted a short review of a Simmons 1.5-5X20 here.  It is cheap but does not seem to be made cheap though.  I said one time that I'd never buy another Simmons scope!

Accupoint TR21R (1.25-4x) Great scope, good eye relief, BAC fiber optic, var-power.
I have one on my 3-gun AR forward mounted and one on a scouot mount on my 45-70 Marlin guide gun, no problem with eye relief on either. The new style (you can tell by the rubberized magnifaction ring) even has finger adjustable elevation and windage knobs.

I'm going to put a Bushnell 3200 series low power on my beowulf....the other's are good choice's too.

An ACOG will definately get you hit in the eye.  The very short eye relief is only good on 5.56mm rifles.  I run a Trijicon Reflex II on my .50 Beowulf and love it.
