I have been a hardcore Aimpoint guy for about 2 years now.  I have played with my partners Eothings and always bashed on them.  The main reason is the circle dot reticle and I always felt it was fuzzy.  Truth be told though I actually liked the design better of the Eothing and felt I had a greater FOV with it.  My question is someone told me that they make an Eothing with just a dot like the Aimpoint.  If this is true I may try one since I also hear they are coming out with a magnifier for it and the LaRue Tactical mount has provisions for it.  Sorry if this is old news, as I said I never kept up with the Eothings.  I also saw Wes is trying one again.....

There is a "dot only" EOTech (I forgot the model designation), but it's a 1 MOA dot, much smaller than the Aimpoint's dot.

Hey I said I was gonna get a LaRue mount.  I didn't know it was only a 1 moa dot.  That won't work.  Oh well I guess there is still 3 Aimpoint guys.

I always thought we should petition EOTech to do two things:

1.  Replace the dot only model with a larger dot than 1moa.  When it is surrounded by the circle, it is a lot easier to use.  Without the circle, it really needs to be beefed up to retain the advantage of faster speed using the EOTech.  It would be a better model for those who seem distracted by the "circle of dots", even though these people probably just aren't using the optic correctly otherwise they wouldn't be distracted by the dots.

2.  Replace the "N" battery models with ones that use CR123s for the ability to use lithium batteries that stand up better to heat than the alklaine only Ns.  Another good thing about this would be commonality of battery supply with taclights so that you only have to carry one type of battery.  I'm sure the lithium CR123s would also give a longer battery life than the alkaline Ns.

I have heard complaints about the visibility of this dot in bright sunlight.  I've never had a problem with the circle/dot reticle.

Seriously, the dot only EOTech is not something a majority of people will like.  The 1 MOA dot is too small to use by itself.  The EOTech works best with 65 MOA outer.  If you want a dot only optic it's best to stick with Aimpoint.

Oh really? Well, let's see if he "turns to the Dark (EOtech) side". Here is a qoute from Wes in an e-mail I got from him:

....GLAD YOU LIKE THE AIMPOINT. I FEEL THEY ARE GROSSLY UNDERAPPRECIATED, MYSELF. IT CAN'T BE BEAT FROM ARMS LENGTH TO 200 YARDS. FEW POSE THREATS BEYOND THAT......

Tried them both and bought the Aimpoint.  The Eotech was a great sight, but the 10,000 hour battery life of the Comp ML2 and the uber quality of the Aimpoint made me a believer.

I love this idea, BUT a stray thought occurs.  Aren't the AA and N batteries 1.5 volts each?
So, how would it affect battery life in switching to the 3 volt 123-type batteries?  Would this be too difficult a conversion on EoTech's part?

Maybe we could power our 123 powered EoTechs with only one battery, and have the second as a backup.
