I need the L so it can sit under my Loopy M3. I'll take offf the 40 and put it on my M4 that will be wearing an EOTech soon.

I originaly bought a #40A for my SPR.I dont like the cut apeture.I plan on buying a #40L to replace it.I would prefer the small appeture to be the primary than the large appeture.Also the #40A works fine but does have difficulties with the lens covers.The #40L should take care of both of these.SJR556.

Original 40.
It allows me to mount my TA31, my prefered magnified optic. That and I never use the small apperature. |

I have a 40A - I don't own an ACOG, and my M4 will never likely have a scope other than the Aimpoint. Plus, I got a GREAT deal on it!

My 40A fits under ACOG, so my choice is 40A regardless.

The vote questin is not fully accurate in that an ACOG will not mount over the #4A. It would depend on what mount was used, some do, some don't.

I would buy whichever one was best suited for my configuration, but it would definitely be a #40 of some type.

I bought the #40A2, and I'm glad I did. Looking through a normal small peep, which I like, I can tell the horizon line would drive me insane. However, I don't believe either aperture is appropriate for a backup sight with no elevation adjustment. I recommend getting an XS/AO/AE same plane rear aperture and installing it. It keeps both your windage and elevation from changing when flipping apertures back and forth.

All the A2 apertures in the M16A2 are compensated buy a slight off set of the peep holes so that the 1/4 turn does not change the windage. Good shootin, Jack |

You can keep that cut peep crap. I just ordered the #40L. Why? Well, I just bought a TA31, and while my #40A's may fit, I don't have a #40L yet, so why not. Besides, I want to be the first on my block with one...

The 'same plane sight' , mine any way, is not. Also, both aperatures are larger than the large A-2. My experiance with this makes the A-2 sight best for me. |

Depending on use, combat or target, can govern how they are best suited. The #40 uses the same apertures as the M16A2 and windage does NOT change when you rotate the apertures the 1/4 turn. The two apertures are compensated by being off set from one another to make that posible, the USMC and Colt new what they were doing. The elevation and use are very much more usfull in that the small peep is for a greater distance of engagement and the .014 higher compensates for bullet drop, all in the manual. The large is for CQB and since when a target is larger at close quarters they use the larger aperture to get it all into the sight picture.

ARMS #40A (full circle small peep, won't work w/ACOG) [?]My 40A fits fine under my ACOG. If I was building a Mk12 Mod 0 SPR, I'd get the 40Lumpy. If I was building a Mk12 Mod1, I'd get the KAC 600m. |
