I spoke w/ Dave Dunlap about this variation a while back. He didn't say this, but the impression I got is that the clamp screw design is a more robust mounting method for general purpose use (ie. it can take a hit & remain upright), while the set screw model does not require the bbl. to be trimmed for clearance, relying on friction alone to remain true, & is prefered for precision guns because the bbl remains unaltered.

Clue me in here. Am I correct?

And get the new clamp version that does not require removing barrel material for the cross-bolts.
