Greetings,
Having reviewed many different forums, I believe no other has members better versed in Combat Optics than Ar15.com, so it is here I will pose my questions.

(1.) Which Combat Optic would you choose for use on a H&K G3KA4? For those unfamiliar with this select-fire rifle, a brief description w/pics can be found towards the bottom of this page http://www.hkpro.com/g3.htm .

This rifle will see various roles, but as I have a H&K 53 with an EOTech 552 for CQB, select-fire usage will be approximately 50%. Contact range will begin beyond a room's-length distance and extend to 150-200 yards maximum.

(2.) Which Combat Optic would you choose for use on a select-fire G3SG/1? For those unfamiliar with this select-fire rifle, a description can be found on the following page http://www.hkpro.com/g3sg1.htm .

This rifle will see limited select-fire useage (25% maximum), and estimated contact ranges will extend from 100-500 yards.

Thanks for your wisdom and guidance in my Combat Optics purchasing dilemma.

Easy for me.

#1: Aimpoint COMP ML2
#2: The Trijicon TA-11E or TA01B ACOGS if they can mount.  (Those are the .308 ACOGS)

Biased? Yep, what of it?

You might try the Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5 x 30mm #54640 matte finish w/illuminated duplex reticle.  We have recently switched over a number of .308 M1A's and have also been using them on some 6.8 mm rifles.  These are fantastic scopes and work well for the engagement ranges you describe.  These scopes are proving ideal for LE use and are also working very well in military combat use OCONUS.

I just got to try out a cool scope, it's a Leupold 54400, Vari-X III 1.5-5x20 with illuminated reticle (Circle-Dot).  It's quick on target, small like a scout scope, high enough magnification for close distance.  The illumination washes out in daylight however, as most IR due I imagine (but not the ACOG's)

Greetings again,
Thanks for all the input. Does anyone else, maybe those who own an "opticked" AR10, want to give their opinion before I make my purchases?

I'm in the same state as Corvette, I just got a AR-10T and need to put an optic on it.

For combat rifle either Aimpoint M2/ML2 or Trijicon TA11C/E.

For precision rifle move up to Leupold Tactical or Mark series.

Consider a Shepherd. I've got one on my Knight SR-25 and for multiple targets at various ranges, it's unbeatable; particularlu with a semi-auto .308. It's not an X-ring scope but, it is a 10-ring scope if the operator does his part.

Luck,

SD

I went with a Bushnell 3200 Elite 2-7x on my AR-10.  Lack of funds precluded an ACOG setup.  However, so far I have been doing pretty good with the 3200.  It is not nearly as fast as an ACOG, but the purpose of my rifle is not necessarily speed.  The 2-7 seems to be a great range for my purposes.  I guess 3-9x would be the standard, but I think that the 2-7 is a little bit smaller.

Had an Aimpoint M2 on friends M1A scout this weekend, worked well but even with the lowest rings we had (which were very low) could not use the iron sights through the Aimpoint.
