What is a good brand/model to buy, for around $100-$200.

I'm not sure of the price range, but I like my IOR 10x40 rangefinders.

Check on sniper's hide for posts by USSR. He sells russian surplus 'nocs that are very nice. I got a pair of his 7x30 armored for like $100 and they're really clear.

Here's a link to a thread with some info:

I know they are slightly out of your price range, but I got a pair of Pentax DCF WPs for like $250.  They are excellent, like in the same league as German glass.

For reviews of binoculars, check out birdwatching sites such as www.betterviewdesired.com.

Try www.deutscheoptik.com

They have a lot of reconditioned milsurp glasses. I bought a set of IDF Steiner 7X50s a couple of years ago from them at a good price...

Really depends on what you are planning on using them for as well.  I'll second the Nikon glass if it isn't too far out of your price range.  In addition to being a gun junky, I also bird on occasion and those are some great binoculars.

Spend a little more and get a Steiners 7x50 Marine cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2956644311&category=28180
This is NOT my ebay sale, but I did buy one just like it from the same outfit.

Thanks Mike.

Coming from you, who deals in this, I think that is the way to go.

Thanks again!

Like imposter, I have the Pentax DCF WP's and love them. I originally bought the Steiners and did not like them at all, they do not come close to the Pentax in clarity or eye relief. The DCF WP's were originally about $500, they have redesigned them to a rubber covered plastic body and raised the price [the original was rubber clad metal] the original models are being closed out at 1/2 price. I have a friend that has a set of E series Nikons [$1100] and the Pentax are very close to his in optical clarity. I would put them up against anything up to $800.

I am very happy with my Kowa 8X. They have japanese (not china or taiwan) Glass and cost about $230.00 a few years ago. Price may have come down.

For $280 you can't beat the Pentax DCF WP 8x42.

This price (google searched this morning) is a lot less than I paid for mine a couple of years ago.

These binocs are exceptionally clear and bright, lightweight and sturdy.

I'll second the Steiner 8x30 military. I'm very happy with the pair I have. I did a side by side comparison with my friend's IOR Valdada 8x30s and the Steiners are much clearer, especially at the edges.
