The Optima was marketed by Tasco and is NO longer available unless you find an old one.  The actual sight is made in the UK.  Brownells sold it as the Firepoint.  The Jpoint is the SAME sight.  I've heard that they have made some improvements but it is still a PLASTIC sight - plastic lens and housing.  The German Made Docter Optic is superior.  All stainless steel, aluminum, glass and brass.
I personally have 2 Optimas and 4 Docters and the Docters are superior.  I have some more info on my site.

I make custom mounts for use with the Docter and Optima/Firepoint/Jpoint.
Note that the mounts are NOT interchangeble between the Docter and Optima/Firepoint/Jpoint.

i would like to try a doctorsight on a 1911. i think it would be similar to an m4 with an eotech. quick and easy handling with fast target aquisition. i see some competition shooters with the doctorsight, but i'd like to beat the hell out of one on a tactical 1911. any one try one on a 1911?

Doctor is the way to go.........auto intensity (sp?) point is sweet. I agree with Amphibian. I purchased my sight and mount at ultout.com.

GIDDS-45 is that the AR-15 weaver rail mount?

How about dot size? Is the 3.5 too small? Is the 7.5 too large for accurate shooting at say 100 yards?

When I go to order one the dot size always hangs me up.
