Does anyone forsee any problem mounting a Bushnell Elite 4200 4x16x50 on a flat top AR using an Armalite scope mount?

I tried mine using the RRA 1 peice and it wasn't a problem.

That's an excellent scope, BTW.

They are very long.  You might have eye relief problems, but that depends a lot on where you are used put your cheek on the stock.

As Hoplophile says, they are very nice scopes.

As you can see there is plenty of clearance height wise.  But like imposter said eye relief can be a problem.  This pic is with a shorter A1 stock but even with an A2 it may be too close.  Then again the Armalite mount may allow the scope to be mounted further forward than the RRA mount in the pic.

for a Leupold vx3 in 6.5x20.  An extension over the barrel allows positioning the front scope ring over the barrel with the base still solidly clamped to the receiver.

I was thinking of getting one elite4200 4x16 in 40mm.  I was wondering about the eye relief on your elite4200 4x16.  Do you have to reposition your head when moving power betweeh low and high?  Any idea how much?  On my Leupold it's a couple of inches, which I don't like.  Some scopes like the Leupold lps are advertised as having constant eye relief for all magnifications.

I haven't really noticed any change in eye relief, but it's on a 'range gun' so 99% of the time it just stays at 16x.

I'm using the Armalite to mount my Nightforce 56mm to my Bushy Varminter. After doing some extensive shooting with this configuration, I realize I need to raise the scope about 1/4" to 3/8" higher. It appears the RRA mount is higher but the Armalite allows the scope to be mounted further forward, which I do need for proper eye relief. I don't have a handguard rail to facilitate shifting the the mount beyond the flatop rail. I've considered going back to the 2 piece Bushy risers and rings though I'd rather find a one piece mount with the height of the RRA and forward offset of the Armalite. --RR

yup... I see it and I'm sure it works, but it's not gonna fly with my keep it simple principle. I'm not really into stacking up a bunch of modular components. Too busy and too much tolerance stack-up. I think I'm going to go ahead and MAKE what I have in mind. It will be a one piece MIL STD 1913 female dove tail. The forward offset will be even greater in order to mount these longer scopes without being pushed all the way forward in the rings. And tentatively, I'm thinking the scope height should be equivelent to standard carry handle irons. Any input on appropriate height would be appreciated. Yeah, this will be a hogout from 6061-T6, I'll add some lightning slots or holes to give it a nice look. The scope tube diameter will be jig bored in line and on center deadnuts to the dovetail. Black anodize on the aluminum and black oxide on the studs and thumb nuts. I'll draw it up this sounds like a fun project already... [banana]

According to ArmaLite, their one-piece mount will accomodate up to a 50mm objective scope mounted on an AR15 A3 flat-top with standard two-piece handguards (not M4 double heat shield). If using a 2" diameter free float tube you would have even more clearance.  The beauty of the ArmaLite mount is 1)Super solid mounting, 2)front ring extended forward for eye relief, and 3)scope height(crosshair) is at same height as iron sights.

No, incorrect. The armalite mount does not position the crosshairs of the scope at the same height as iron sights. I just did a precise measurement of each. I checked the distance from CENTERLINE of the dovetail "V" to the CENTERLINE of the sight peep hole on my Colt M4 removable carry handle. The dimension is 1.500". [I]That is with the elevation set to "Z" (Z is the ref height used to zero the front site). As the rear sight is elevated the 1.500" increases. With the sight cranked all the way up to the end of the travel it's 1.600".[/I]
I checked the distance from CENTERLINE of the dovetail "V" to the CENTERLINE of the scope bore on my Armalite one piece mount. The dimension is 1.350".
Conclusion- The Armalite mount is .150" (just over an 1/8 inch) lower than a removable carry handle sight that is set to it's lowest position.
As far as comparison to fixed carry handle irons goes, I'm assuming the removable carry handle iron sights are the same height relative to the rifle bore as are fixed carry handle sights.

I think the Armalite would work even better.

Thanks for the measurements.  The first two points I mentioned were from personal experience with this mount, but I did not measure the mounted scope height.  When I was thinking about purchasing the ArmaLite mount, several members here mentioned that the height was as I stated above.  Perhaps the 0.150" difference was seen as close enough?
Anyways, I appologise for posting information that I did not have personal confirmation on.
