I have an Armalite mount that seems to be about 3/4" in rise to the bottom of scope. I think a tad higher would fit me better. I've been taught to always mount scope as close to bore as possible for better long range results. How do you determine best height for an individual?

Any negative to raising it up some? I think another 1/4" would fit me perfect, but have no clue how to get it there short of buyin sevral mounts which I can't sford right now.
