1. Adjust the dial to bottom out at 8/3 -2.
2. Set the dial to 8/3 -2, flip to the small aperture, and zero at 50 yards, using only the FRONT sight to adjust elevation.
3. Set the dial to 8/3 and flip to the large aperture.
Your sights are now zeroed. The large aperture is used for targets between 0 and 250 yards. For virtually this entire distance, the bullet will impact within 2" of the line of sight.
To engage targets at 300m and beyond, flip to the small aperture. The default setting is 300m, and for ranges beyond that, you use the elevation wheel (set to 4 for 400m, 5 for 500m, etc.) up to 800m.
There will obviously be some variation, as different loads, barrel lengths, and environmental conditional all affect velocity, and therefore trajectory. The sights assume a 20" barrel and M855 ammo. Out to about 400m, you'll be pretty good provided you've followed the above zero process using your carry ammo. You'll have to use a ballistic calculator, or better, shoot at those distances, to know load's trajectory and your needed adjustments.
