I am looking for something to put on my 20" heavy barrell A2.  I use the gun for ranges 200-400 yards, maybe more in the future.  What can I get that would have turret knobs, somewhere around 3-12x, a mil-dot or fine reticle crosshair, for around $400?

Luepold Vari-X II or III...you can add the turret knobs to it later.

Just picked up a Sightron 3X-12X 42mm AO with target knobs, plex reticle. Very nice scope. Every bit as as clear as a VariX-III. It was $330.00 including shipping from www.dnrsports.com    I'd recommend it highly-it's my second Sightron.  [:)]

Check out Weaver scopes. V16 series. 4x16x42.
$229 I think from  the usual suppliers. I got mine from Bear Basin. I believe these scopes are made buy Hakko. They make some of the best Japanese scopes. Not Chinese. I wouldnt trust anything Chinese on my Ar.

You may also want to check out Bushnell Elite 3200 or 4200 series rifle scopes.  You can get their 3200 Mildot with exposed target turrets for $150.00 at Natchez Shooting Supply.  Only thing is that its a fixed 10X.

I've used just about every scope out there over the years - inc expensive Euro stuff.

I now use B&L / Bushnell Elite 4200 as first choice. Weaver as second choice on low budget projects.

Not to steal this thread, but what's a good one piece base for a low-budget project?  I'm considering a Leupold VX-II or maybe a Weaver Grand Slam, but not sure about the base/rings.  Any opinions on the RRA high riser mount?

Swift makes any extremely high quality scope at a reasonable price.
