They are both made by Hakko of Japan but that is were the similarities stop.
"I think I could live with just the plain plex and Millett written on the side instead of Springfield."
You are not getting a Springfield with Millets name and a plex reticle. Hakko is a manufacturer much like General Motors and they are capable of producing Corvettes or Chevetts it just depends on what the contract calls for. They could have totally different glass, coatings, materials, etc., etc. When a company approaches Hakko you can either buy one of their "off the shelf" base models or you an buy a "fully loaded" custom scope. If you are capable you can even design and provide them with your own "blue prints".
If you go there and say I want this and that and it must look like this and be capable of doing this and that, BUT I only want to pay this price. Then that is what you will get. On the other hand if you go there and say I want this and that and it must look like this and be capable of doing this and that, how much will it cost? You will get a scope that has not been compromised to meet a price point.
So don't count one out or compare one to the other as they both deserve to stand on their own merit.
