I was wondering what the majority of you guys use, 6 o' clock or center of mass. I prefer center of mass, just wondering what everyone prefers.

Prone --> CoM only way to go.

Unless you are only a match shooter - then by all means do what ever works best for you to keep your groups tight...

Let me clarify one thing for you. Some of us newbie's don't have the time to rack up post counts. Some of us are actually shooting our guns and honing our talents. Please don't paint newbie's with such a wide brush.

This "newby" only has 15 years experience shooting M-16s and aims for center mass.

COM, that's why they teach it in Basic Training.  If you can't kill'em, at least criticaly wound 'em!

You guys mistake "newbies" to mean people with low post counts.  Newbies to me mean people who are new to AR15, not new ar15.com members.  The brush with which I supposedly painted newbies  exists with you, not me.  Some folks use post counts as a measuring mechanism, not I.  No clarification was necessary.

This is how I set my sights too. I hold at Center Mass.

So if you are aiming COM how are the sights zeroed? At 50 yards (Santose zero) what size black circle are you using? Are you then using a "Navy hold" to zero, since 6 o'clock is not used?

Thanks shadow.  As in real life, it's the quality, not the length of time that really matters.  In view of all the IBTL posts and folks that were in a hurry to up their post counts (for what, respect?), post counts should not be used to measure expertise or experience.  When it comes to "newness" to AR15, I count myself as a relative newbie as well, because there are folks that are/were in the service of the armed forces that are vastly more knowledgable than I could ever hope to be.

The only time I used 6 o'clock was on KD course Able target at 200m -- center mast all else off the KD.

Say Stryker_11A, your avitar/pic is a bit tuff for me, but is that a 5-gun you've got there on an LPH of some sort?  The view brings back some memories...

With an A2 sight, I zero at 100 yards with the sight on the 100 yard setting (or is it meters? been a while).  The size of your circle shouldn't matter, since you are hitting your point of aim.  I am not familiar with "Navy hold", but as someone mentioned before, 6 o'clock hold is only good for one size target at one set distance - great if you compete that way, but not practical for anything else.

LHD-1 USS Wasp, LF6F 3-95. As a REMF in the CE I was able to hook up the guys in 2nd Force alot, so they hooked me up whenever they pulled out their toys. This was one of the nicer ones. Gysgt Westfall, SSgt Moose, SSgt Stewart and SSgt Hoopii come to mind.

Much better photo Stryker_11A.  Never was on the Wasp, but spent some time on similar boats such as the Whidbey Island, Nash(Trash)ville, Inchon....  Damn, do I know Moose -- he was a team leader and later assistant platoon sergeant of mine back in time.  Gunny Westfall sounds familiar and I believe I encountered a few Stewarts as well, but can't bring a face to mind.  The 5-gun in '95 is right on -- I'll probably be catchin' up with Moose again next week to confirm, but I think that weapon has been relegated to the dark corners of the weapons cage at Force.  Beautiful, wasn't it though?
