I recently purchased an Aimpoint M2 for an AR. It came with the double battery set up. What is the purpose of this? Is it to give you twice the battery life? Thanks.

I believe it is simply a storage device to hold a second battery.  Your old one dies, you replace it with your spare.

Yep, what he said; one battery goes tango uniform, so you just loosen the knob, flip the module over, & resecure - back in business.
