I have both types and they have been reliable. The Surefire is easier to carry as a spare, but I recommend always loading it using a LULA tool. D60 is a bit more robust and has been 100%, but is a PITA to load and unload. Don’t drop either - both are a huge pain to disassemble for cleaning.

Duplexed magazines

Much cheaper, easier to load, and won't break if you drop it.

here to post this. Duct tape and a pencil. I have 3 duplexed mags hanging next to my rifle on a belt, plus one in the gun. 240 rounds at the ready. I'm good. Tried the D60. It worked just fine. Simply didnt like it enough to keep it.

Get both.

I like both. I think the D60 is more reliable.

I think I've got six or seven D60's and a dozen Surefire 60's. One downside to the Surefire and other quad stacks, they don't like steel case.

No experience with the Surefire but I’ve had zero issues with the D60. Solid piece of kit.

I know this wasn't your question, but definitely take a look at the 60 round Schmeisser mags.  I have Surefire, D60, and the Schmeisser.  In all honesty the Schmeisser is my favorite.

The Schmeisser is almost an inch longer than the Surefire.

I have a D-60, so far has been flawless.

D60 is going to be much more reliable, stout & just better.
I have a few the the old Surefire's & they have always worked for me, but not in the same class as the D60.
I have 1 D60 & no plans to buy another just because they are way too complex to load. Much more then it should be.
Also have some Surefire 100's.

The D-60 is the standard all improved capacity mags are judged by IMO

I like the GII Surefire 60s with stronger springs and updated follower better.

Very reliable, incredibly light weight (lighter weight than two empty 30s) and much less bulky.

Keeping a D60 in your rifle makes it very un-nimble, handles like a boat anchor (the empty mag itself is very heavy).  The Surefire doesn't have that same effect if you wish to keep one as your first mag in the gun.

The D60 is more of a 'keep stocked up at base camp / fixed fortification for suppressive fire' mag.  The Surefire 60 is more of a 'keep in your rifle while patrolling as an anti ambush / first contact' mag.

I just got in 2 of the Schmeisser 60rd mags.  I haven’t shot them yet, but I managed to get 65rds in one of them.

I have both, IMHO the D60 is the superior product for an AR if you need it or want it.

However, I recently acquired a Tavor X95 that I have sort of fallen in love with. And use of the D60 is cumbersome on that gun.

I had two of the Surefire 60rd mags, that while I will admit that I rarely used in the past, when used they worked perfectly.

I have now dedicated the Surefires to the X95, makes for a nice package, IMHO.

I might try the Schmeisser(sp), but finding a real world review on those has been scarce.

I have a few of each. I prefer the surefire 60 because it loads faster. I have never had a problem with either though.
