Aren't there any AR-15, M-16 magazine collectors here? I posted in the EE, a Government Issued Box of Seven unfired 20 round Colt magazines (box stamped 1969). What collector has the government issued box that the 7 twenty round mags came in? I know the overwhelming majority of folks here are shooters and not collectors but for those that see the value in collecting Viet Nam era military issued items, they will have a piece of history in their hands. This box and the unfired mags are about 43 years old..... I have to get rid of them, I don't want to but I have too, so I hope someone can give this piece of history a home from here on out...

I have some of those tall 20mm cans. I want to use some sort of heavy card stock or maybe thin sheets of closed cell around the perimeter and in between. Id like them to be tight so they dont bounce around inside. I do have some DynaMat foam, might try that. What do you guys recommend?

I have several 20mm cans with GI mags stored in them. Just shim the walls and floor with cardboard and you’ be gtg. IIRC, there somewhere between 80 and 90 mags per can.

These slightly smaller ammo cans hold about 36 mags standing vertically and can fit another 4 or so laid flat on top. And for those of you who've been on this thread since it first began a few years ago...here's an update to my original stash pic from way back on page 4 of this thread. Glad to be back. Long story. Anyways, I sold a few mags, followers, etc. 574 mags based on my latest inventory, only one of which is an untested 40rd mag. The pic below is not my latest as the mags aren't all together. Of the 574 mags, there's some 36 + 35 + 16 +2 = 89 mags that a fully loaded (30rd)...gotta get a pic of those since that's an easy one to take...maybe next week during Thanksgiving week. To be honest, I've got some 90 mags fully loaded. All but the two PMags are C-Products. I store these loaded mags in 3 P120 ammo cans (aka, 40mm grenade cans) with two packs of dessicant, which have a humidity indicator. I change the dessicant when the indicator goes above 30% (most likely absolute humidty vs relative humidity). SO NO, I HAVEN'T HAD ONE RUSTED CPRODUCTS SPRING YET, NOT AFTER 7 YEARS. I ALSO KNEW I WAS BUYING CHROME SILICON SPRINGS. ANY CHROME SILICON SPRING WILL START TO SHOW RUST AFTER A WHILE. Check the Archives: https://www.ar15.com/forums/ar-15/-/17-440852/ Now, I live in a very hot Gulf Coast humid part of Texas. Even in winter we get high humidity because it fogs up outside every night. I keep all ammo & mags in ammo cans w/dessicant bags EXCEPT for the PMAGS. (PMAGS have SS springs and they're always loaded, in 2 rifles I keep handy all the time.) So remember that I've got some 500+ mags. When I first got the C-products mags, some 600 of them, I got a ton of cheap steel-cased ammo and began testing every mag with at least 10-20rds, and the first 50 mags or so fully loaded to 30rds. I cycled about 250 mags and stopped testing. Believe it or not, 200+ all loaded rounds fine, dropped free and held the bolt open when empty, EXCEPT for a batch of some 20+ that all came from one case. I had 5 cases of gray mags with CS springs, which the 200+ good mags that passed the cycle tests all came from. I also bought a case of black mags w/CS springs - it apparently had the wrong CS springs in them. I compared a few dozen springs between the gray and black mags. Every black mag had slightly shorter and narrower springs, just barely narrower width & depth and missing 1/2 coil or so - I figured these springs must've been meant for steel mag versions, NOT aluminum mags. As soon as i put some of the springs in the gray mags in the black ones, the 40-50 or so I cycle tested worked just good as the gray ones. Now being C-products, there's a whole UGLY STUPID SAD story around them some 5-7 years ago. ARFCOM is harsh to vendors and rightly so because we on ARFCOM stake our lives on these products and we expect them to deliver. I haven't experienced the gray flaking off but the black ones are showing some issues. Oh well. I was planning to Duracoat them or use a vinyl wrap. No big deal. Overall, I'm happy and satisfied. I bought them straight from the owners, AT $5 PER MAG in 2010 and $100 to ship all 6 cases. Larry & Chad Panko did me right back then, and I have no remorse in the end, even by the time i discovered the bad/wrong springs. They were out of the business by then and I wasn't going to ask for a fix from their new partner in Bradenton FL, NOT AT $5/mag. I sold a case of gray mags w/followers & springs for $8 per mag some years ago to make a little $$ and replace the short springs, but I'm keeping the rest forever. Don't get me wrong. Some of you, MANY OF YOU, got a really raw deal on your CProducts. You're mad as hell at CProducts. I agree and I get it. I'd be mad as hell too, but at $5 per mag, even when 100 of them had wrong springs, I somehow got a boatload of 500 left that I consider GTG. All the mags got cleaned, dried, and then sprayed with a coat of CRC Molybdenum Spray, spring, inside the mag and sides of the follower and air dry a few days. The empty mags (that I haven't loaded w/ammo for SHTF) then got packed inside a thick Mylar foiled bag (6 per bag) and "vacuum packed" with a small pack of dessicant and oxygen scavenger. (I spec'd these materials if you want info.) I don't remove all the air...the O2 scavenger takes out 21% and the dessicant any water vapor. I pack 7 to 8 6-pack bags into a 20mm ammo can...so the pics in the previous posts are old hat now. These get put away for long-term storage and are put in various locales (the 20mm ammo can) for caches I've arranged w/family around the country. Those mags aren't going to corrode, rust...springs, whatever. |

Local shop put sand M3’s out for under $10each. I needed some new mags for work, and never found a deal I liked enough on Lancers, so I snagged some. Tried RIT dye and had horrible results, so they got kryloned today.

I'm currently stacking 7x30-round and 2x20-round PMAGs in a 30cal can, does anybody know if the 40-round PMAGs will fit lying flat in a .30cal ammo can? I'm thinking this might be slightly more efficient if I can just stack 7 of those in there.
I'm steering clear of the full 30-mag fat fifty can for now, because I'm built like a noodle and stocking 220-grain Blackout...that can would be HEAVY, haha. |

I dug out my mags to count them last night.
AR: Attached File What you can't see because they're behind the black PMAGS are three oddball ones; a black PMAG40, a blue PMAG30, and a red PMAG30. All together, there are 203 30-rounders, 32 20-rounders, 1-40, and 2 D-60's - enough to load just shy of 7,000 rounds. That's for 6 rifles. Glock: Attached File There are 38 15-rnd, 27 17-rnd, 2 21-rnd, 15 31-rnd, and 11 33-rnd mags there - enough to load just shy of 2,000 rounds. That's for 5 Glocks, 3 P80's, and one AR9. I obviously still need more mags and ammo. |

so,
Generally speaking at $0.32/round, it's essentially a $20 bill for every loaded P-Mag.. (excluding the years around Sandy Hook when Pmags were $50/ea and Ammo was $0.65/round) |

You should see all the pictures of all magazine bought by those behind the Tofu Curtain in the People's Republic of Kaiforniastan during the past week.
The Federal court ruling and subsequent stay for a week late allowed, for the first time in almost 25 years to buy new production "hi-cap/large cap" magazines. Several folks have stated on the Calguns forum of spending over $3000 on standard cap magazine for guns they own or may buy in the future. |

So here’s a question for all the mag hoarders; leaving them loaded? I’m not worried about the spring as much as I am the feed lips/spine. I’ve got mostly magpul m2 and m3. Any damages leaving loaded for long time? Talking years. I’ve got a lot of mags with duty ammo loaded that will never be fired like my mags with fmj ammo.
