They make it easier for the Tacticool dudes to hook up.

Its supposed to make it easier to pull a magazine out of a mag pouch. It also keeps the mags from rattling in the pouch.
I haven't been able to bring myself to drop $3 each for them yet. The "original" idea was to use paracord and duct tape to make loops at the bottom of the mags. |

They also help to cushion the magazine when they are dropped onto a hard surface.
