only two sets of dies to stamp a simple sheet metal box?
Shoot, some people have made their own successfully...shoot, some people make their own AK receivers... |

Used to be two sets of machinery, manufactured by colt and owned by the US govt. Varius minority owned and such companies would bid for the contract and the equipment would be provided.
The industry has moved on. Other companies have their own equipment now. Although there are still really only a few companies making mags, often rebranded under several brands. |

Okay industries has a tool. Center Indudtries has a tool. D&H has a tool. It is my understanding that the 3 companies were provided this tooling when the bids were awarded or when the company was bought, such as D&H bought General Stamping which was the LaBelle tooling. To my knowledge no company other than C Products has made a new progressive die. Larry C Products |

Brownells has their own dies. Certainly as sophisticated as any in the industry.

What i was told in a recent Colt armorers course was brownells was subcontracting the mags out but had a reject rate of about 50% on visual inspection alone. So they started making them themselves instead of relying on subcontractors. |

All of the DH mags I have exhibit a weird "crack-like" mark on the back which was discussed on the forum awhile back. I have ordered a few CProducts mags and I hope to see that this "mark" does not appear which would indicate a new/different progressive die being used. |

Its a form line. Most mags produced in any large numbers will experience it. I posted a pic months ago with a selection from all the majors that had them. Non-issue.

None of my NHMTG mags have the mark and I know of many people with various other brands that did not have the mark. |

When you receive our C Products magazines you will notsee any form line. We make 20,000 magazines per week. New progressive die. No form line. Larry C Products |

Then how come my MagPul antitilt 1st gen works in some mags, but not the cheap mags I bought? If there is standard dies and only 3 companies that have the standard dies, then all my antitilts will work in all my mags.
Might as well just go buy HK mags. Hardwarz |

I had so many FTFeed issues with my Magpul Gen 1 followers in all of my mags (NHTMG/Colt, SAR80 steel, DH dry film and teflon, etc...) that people thought I was some whack-job at the range fixing malfunctions left and right.
