I mainly rely on my Glock 19 for home defense, so I have 2 15 rounders loaded up with Black Hills 124 gr. JHP +P.  This resides on my nightstand.  Usually my AR mags are empty, but I just got a chest rig so I figured I would fill up the mag pouches for a SHTF situation.  That means 6 30 rounders loaded with Q3131A/XM193.  I also have two extra Glock mags in the chest rig loaded with 124 gr. NATO.

How many mags you got?  If you got a mag, and it isn't loaded, it's time to get some ammo for it.
If you have a semi-automatic and you have unloaded magazines laying around (that you plan to use for SHTF), you might as well use them for bricks.

No matter how fast you can load a mag, having an empty mag and loose ammo laying around in a gun fight will make your uber-tactical gun about as useless as an expended case.

Hey dumbass, use a shoulder weapon for home defense!  Last thing us arfcommers need is you do die so that there are less of us to defeat hillary.  Can you would fataly w/ a glock, absolutely, will they bleed out quickly enough not to be able to shoot you back?  Maybe not fast enough.

Correct answer: All of them, when they get here that is. Ordered 10 30 rounder mags a few days ago. I will be ordering more after the AR is built.

I'll probably keep a few mags at the ready and the rest in a can as I colloect more mags.

After that I just need to get all the parts for the rifle. I hate waiting.

But when I load them up to go shooting I either load up all 24 + C-Mag.  Or just half of them and the C-Mag.
All my magazines are 30 rounders.

No need to insult the guy. If he's more comfortable with the Glock, more power to him. Everyone's situtation is different, as is their preference in defense guns.

As for how many loaded mags I have lying around, more than I need to melt the damn barrel; or at least make the gun(s) cook-off.

Right now, I'm keeping 18 mags loaded.
Six in my rifle's Go-Bag (Blackhawk Discrete "Homeland Security bag).
Two in my first line gear
Ten in my ammo Go-Box.

I keep 10 of my training mags loaded with cheap, plinking ammo, but I won't count that because I'm not reaching for that in SHTF.

Four 16rd mags for my CZ75B on the duty belt, with SF 6P.

One 30rd mag loaded in my AR, with a spare 20rd mag on the buttstock.  Eight 30rd mags standing by in my bedroom and car.  200+ rounds loaded on stripper clips.

My CZ is my go-to rig for bumps in the night because I have the most daily practice with it, and therefore am most proficient with it.  If I have to get my AR, things are far worse than I can handle by myself.

I am not a ninja.

6 in my TAC Vest, 5 on my Web Gear, 4 in my soft case, and 4 in my Pelican case, with one in the chute 24/7.

Other than that, everything else (all XM193) are in strippers and bandos...and I'm not going to tell you how much that is because I don't want you to be jealous!

As of now 35 30rd mags for my three ARs and a converted AUG-P A1 16" carbine that uses AR mags.

Seven mags each for my other Galil and two AKs.

Four mags each for my 1911, HK USP .40 full size, Sig P226 9mm, Sig P220 .45 and Glock 19.

Before I only had usually 10 30rd mags loaded and two mags each for my pistols which was the same way I had it during the '92 L.A. riots when I was living there at the time.

I've never been much of a SHTF person, I've just always had a good HD setup for a worse case scenario especially after my wife was stocked (she's young and good looking -- sometimes two of my worse problems in life).  The 1000 rounds (I think 1040 actually in 20 round boxes) fits perfectly in a 50 cal ammo box for a quick get up and go item.

I'm starting to become "prepared for any situation" (SHTF I suppose, though I think being prepared for everything is a little more all inclusive, though I think that's the intent most people have on ARFCOM when they say SHTF) so that may be a good idea.

Loading up all those stripper clips won't be fun...how many do you think is enough ;) ? KC7TXM

I use to keep all of my ammo on stripper clips that weren't loaded in mags. But I came home one day my sugga momma had me  25 USGI mags that she hunted down on the net and bought for me with her own hard earned cash. She said she feels sorry for when she sees me loading stripper clips all the time.

You are screwed in a defense situation if you are relying on someone to bleed out.  It isn't like hunting squirrels bubba.   A Glock 19 can and will shut down the central nervous system just as easily as a .223 will at close quarters.

Twelve loaded AR mags.  Why this number?  Simply because my two LBV's have room for twelve magazines.

I used to go to absurd lengths to "preserve" the life of the magazines.  Even as far as removing the floorplates, to allow the springs to uncompress during storage.  That was back when a single magazine represented weeks' worth of saving my nickels and dimes..

Fast forward twenty years to when I was in Iraq.  I received a very abrupt education on how "trouble will come quick and unexpected".  Now, I'm more interested in preserving my own life.

The magazines stay loaded.
