Well, actually 13. I have (12) 30 rd. black T D&H mags with MagPul Gen2's and one 10 rounder. Is 12 "enough"...or should I add more to my collection? I keep 4 Glock mags per pistol (2) for carry, and (2) for range. I do, however, have some 30 rd. Glock mags for my G19 and my Sub2000. Guess I should start saving for that EOTech and the next build huh? Unfortunately, I'm paranoid about another ban...I was only 14 when the first ban kicked in and I didn't know squat about it at the time.

You can never have too many mags.  That being said, I'm at 20 per AR and still buying.

100 per AR is a good goal.

That depends.
Do you feel that your mag stash is large enough to keep you in mags for a lifetime?
All it would take is another ban. I feel that there will be another ban, only without grandfathering, and loopholes. Right now is the time to get as many hi-caps as you can afford. They are cheap, and readily available.

I will take my tinfoil hat off now, and go sit down.

I keep 50 mags on hand, plus  new springs and followers.

That average  25 mags per rifle/carbine.

Just make sure they all run 100% in all your intended weapons, don't just deep six them. They are the weakest link.

You are definitely susceptible to the long term effects of Zombies, IMHO.  But you could hold out, for a while.

I have fourteen 30rd mags and about five 20rd mags for "use".  The rest are backups...

I have 30 thirty round mags and 10 twenty round mags. 18 of the 30 round mags got titanium springs before they were discontinued. All the 30 round mags are getting the Magpul treatment, after I set up a few and experienced the advantages of that design.

12 is good, 13 is better. 14... 15... 16... 25... 35... 50...    I have 15 30's and 1 20.  I want more.

You can never have enough mags, and there are several reasons for this.
1.  Mags get damaged and as cheap as they are now, keeping good undamaged mags is easy
2.  Having more mags then you need now, might be a blessing when the next ban hits (and it will)
3.  Easier range time when you go shooting:  Less loading mags, and more shooting
4.  You can keep some mags for "range use" and the rest so that they don't get beat up from range use
5.  You can try out different makers to see which you like best
6.  You can post pictures of your heap of mags and try to get arfcommers to ohh and ahh over your stash.

Reason # 2 is why I keep buying parts that I don't need, but might want when I can't buy them anymore.  Parts like magazines and lowers (so that they will be pre-ban and I can keep the non-nutered kind around).

I agree on 20 mags per gun minimum rule.

I'm trying to reach that goal now because the prices of mags are down now and it's better to take advantage of it before it goes up.

I have currently 35 which is enough to load over 1K rounds, but If I have to follow the 20 mags per gun, I still need 45 mags, still a long way to go.

My plan is to reach my goal sometime this year.

Hers the rule I use-

If my SHTF/Combat load is 9 mags, I have a minimum of 18-27 mags and always buy more as I can

IMO you should have double or triple what you caryy, just my 2 bits

I routinely saw USGI 30-rders selling for $25ish. Sometimes more. I sold a fair number of them right before  Maryland's over 20-rd ban, and people were willing to pay $30 a pop for Colt mags.

Having lived through the first ban, and kicking myself for not having gotten enough (had maybe 20 mags, but then got a second rifle and needed more at the much higher price), I say get them now while they are cheap.

I paid $6-7 apiece for NIW or like new mags in '92-93. With inflation, even $10-11 is an equivalent price now. They won't get much cheaper than they are now. If you got too many, you could always sell them when the next ban is proposed/voted upon. I don't think you'll have much trouble selling them then. People get into panic mode and go nuts. Just human nature.

Only $25 for 30 rounders during the ban? JESUS!!! That's no big deal at all...Glock mags were over $100 a pop for an additional 3 - 5rd. capacity.

I know. I paid $75 a pop for Glock 19 mags. Bought 4 of them from a guy, none of them worked with JHP ammo. $300 pissed away on mags, plus at least $300-400 worth of ammo.

At least the new production mags work perfectly now.

Huh...the only issues I'm aware of with G19's & JHP's is with the 2183 followers due to design changes made to the barrel lug to solve NYC's malfs. Did you try 9mm3 followers in said mags?

I just hijacked my own thread...

Tried 9mm-3 followers, sent gun back to Glock with all mags; they replaced slide stop, polished feedramp, replaced mag springs. Zero effect. Still fail to feeds. I got the new production mags with the 9mm-5 followers and have had absolutely zero problems. One of those strange things I may never figure out. I just put the old mags up for sale.

Huh...sounds like you tried it all man, bad luck I guess. Glad the new mags work for ya. Surprised they didn't swap with the "upgraded" barrel or something.

Yes, it's ok to buy mags 10 or 12 at a time for an AR.

Beta-C's can be bought individually.

G20, 21, 22 mags and the 33 rd G18 mags reached the highest prices during the AWB, $150-$200 each.   I'm thinking of investing in mags in case of AWB II, Glock mags reached a 10x return on investment, the AR mags only about 2-3X.  Sig 226-9 mags went to $125ish range, a 3x ROI.  Of course AWB 2 may be such that it's illegal to sell pre AWB2 mags at all, who knows? Still better to have a shitload of mags than not have a shitload of mags. This year I may buy a case of 100 rd GI spec 30 rd AR mags and then next year 50 or so Glock mags and just stash 'em away

You may one day have enough but, IMHO, you will never have too many.

As much as I hate to put a number on it, if you only have one or two of a particular weapon platform I can live with the minimums already suggested in this thread (20/rifle, 10/pistol).  OTOH, if you have 25 ARs I'm not sure you need 500 magazines.

(At least I hope not...)

Instead of anticipating a second ban and looking for ways to profit...how about gearing up to fight it IF the need should arise? We simply can't allow another ban come to be. I was only 14 when the first ban hit and didn't know squat about it until I noticed gun shows starting to suck. FIGHT IT!!!

I did in 1994, was a NRA member, wrote my congress critters, etc, but to be on the safe side I bought 10 hi cap handguns and rifles during 1993-1994 anyway, didnt have enough money left over to buy as many mags for each of them as I wanted, but at least I did well.  If congress and white house goes democrapic, it'll be hard to fight AWB2 and it's better to have a hoard of goodies just in case.  I went on a mini spree Sept 04, bought 2 Colt LE6920's, 20 more Glock mags, 2 new Glocks just in case Kerry would of won in Nov 2004.

Holy s**tski, Batman. I didn't have a G20 then. I'm going to load up at topglock and go out and campaign for Hitlery. Just kidding, JUST KIDDING. But geez, what an ROI.
