I think the final call depends on what follower is already in there. There are some green Magpuls made for the 20rdrs. Kinda scarce. I had them, but replaced them with the old alloy ones. If you already have the alloy ones in a good USGI 20rd mag, I'de leave it alone unless you have functioning problems.

I have the black followers in new 20 round straight mags. The front side of the follower has no legs at all on it.

Actually, neither does the green Magpul 20 follower. It has what looks like an upside down house i^i on the front part.

Try hitting up some gun shows to grab some alloy ones. IMO they work the best in the 20's. |

Big difference between the original design straight 20rd mags and the recent curved 20rd mags. The curved ones are just shorter 30's so magpul followers and ranger plates work just as they do on 30's with no modifications. So it's important to know which type magazine you have.
I've never had trouble with alloy follower straight 20's, I haven't used any new production straight 20's. Upon inspection it would seem to take significant modification to get a magpul follower into a straight 20 magazine, if there were directions for the modifications I didn't get them with my magpul followers (but would be interested to see them). Looks like it might be an interesting project though. |

I've "heard through the grapevine" that curved 20-rounders aren't worth the time it takes to look past them, favoring instead straight 20-rounders, or the ever-favorite 30-shooter. Are curved 20's OK, then? I'd LOVE to update some gunshow clearance mags with Wolff springs and Magpul followers! I don't want to hang a heavy 30-rounder from my superlight gun, but at the same time, it doesn't lock open 70% of the time with the 4 (2ea. from 2 batches) 20-rnd "Colt" mags I have. Thoughts? |
