Hello all,

Just registered but I've been observing for some time.  Love the site!  I looked for this info in other posts and I apologize if it's already been covered: My local shop has Brownells 30 round AR mags.  Who is the manufacturer likely to be and how would the quality be rated?  I think they are priced at $17.99.

I would recomend not buying them. I bought 14 brownells mags and not one of them fit correctly in my magwell. They were all way too tight. I also tried them in my friends' guns, They will fit in bushmasters & rock rivers ok, but not my olympic arms, or my friends' armalites. I returned them real quick!

I bought 11 NHMTG mags from www.buffertech.com. NHMTG are the guys who make colt mags and they are oem for rock river. they are 14.95 each and they charged me $3.00 for shipping. Everyone of them fit perfect and worked flawless. I'll be buying from them again!

IMO buying USGI mags would be a safer bet. There are all kinds of them on the Equipment Exchange for less than $17.99.

I bought 2 and they perform flawlessly.

Having said that, buy USGI.

I bought 20 6 months ago and run them in DPMS and Rock River lowers with fine fit and function.  No complaints.

One thing is for-sure. If you buy a Brownells product & aren't happy, call them & they'll replace it, or refund your money. Early mags from Brownells may have more spotty quality as they got their supplier up & running. Current mags look pretty good.

I have two of the Brownells magazines and have used them through a five day Patrol Rifle Instructor school (~1300 rounds)and a two day Combative Carbine course (~1000 rounds) with absolutly no problems. I can recommend them with no reservations.

I ran some Brownells 30 rounders in a Pat Rogers carbine class earlier this summer.  They worked just as well as my USGI mags.

I have several, and none of them ever give me any trouble. They fit great, feed fine and just plain work and do it well. I think they were built to USGI specs anyhow correct?

I have several of them, and no complaints whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, they ARE USGI-qulaity.

BTW, you can get those mags from Brownell's for $50/4 with free shipping right now. I plan on buying some more soon.

(I assume you can get the dealer discount?)

Which part of TN are you in?

I have three that I just used over the weekend, I didn't have any problems with them.

Which spring is the best ,SS or the Chrome silicon Moly spring from Brownells?

[#12]
I wondered the same about the springs.  Brownells seems to have been hurt by those initial mags that were very bad. They have a huge add in catalogue about how they are improved and tested etc.

I bought 7 a while back, 2 for me and 5 for my nephew who was going to Iraq.

His 5 have been functioning fine. He's been using them for 5 months now give or take.

I had problems with one of mine. It wouldn't chamber a round with it loaded to 30. I switched the spring and follower between the mag I had that worked and the one that was giving me problems. Now they both work.

Their steel 20 rounders are garbage.  I would suspect steel 30 rounders are too.  If they are mil-spec aluminum from a major manuf. then buy them.

IMO, current 30-round Brownells mags are about as close to USGI as you'll find on the market, considering Okay & Center are the only current suppliers of USGI mags. Can't argue with Brownells customer service either. If it don't perform, or you just don't like it, they take it back/refund with a smile.

Excellent magazines.  I'd take the fact that they don't fit Olympic as an extra sign of their high quality.

I asked Brownell's who makes their mags and they would not say, they won't divulge who makes their house brands.  That said, why buy unknown manufacture mags when you can get USGI with known reliability/quality for less?

Try getting Okay, Parsons (or the new brand that bought Parsons), or Israeli mags.

I have 7 of the new style and all are fine, the first batch was the mags that had issues and Brownells does not sell any of them anymore.

does anyone know if Brownell's mag replacement bodies are the same bodies as the complete mags they sell? and do they come with date stamped on them?

Mag bodies so far have been the same as the completed ones.

No date stamps but I do not think they will ship to Cali or Jersey or HI, may want to call and make sure.

Pat Rogers has given the Brownell mags a "thumbs up" over at 10-8 forums.  Cant' get a better endorsement than that.

My crystal ball tells me Brownells mags will be considered USGI in the near future

I have the new ones, they fit my stags and bushies fine.  Finish is nice and functioning has so far been flawless.  They do ship to Hawaii.

Shit, I was just about to post this morning about how well all 10 of mine work. Looks like 9 out of 10 isn't too bad. Mag has to be forced into the magwell on all 5 of my AR's (tight front to rear). I'll call Brownell's and post a report.
