I just picked up five NIW OKay mags from our base supply store.  They are selling for $11.81/ea.  They were manufactured in Nov 2003.  All of them show some storage/handling wear.  All of them had insertion marks on them when I opened the box.  I assume the factory did a function test before they shipped them out.  I really expected them to look a a little better than they do, but they fit tight in both my rifles and drop free with no problem, so I guess I really have nothing to complain about.  It's just that I have around 30 NIW Parsons from 1986 that look as good as these, and they are going on almost 20 years of being stored/handled.

Anyway, here are some photos:

you should pick up a couple 1000 of them and sell them here on the EE for $12 a piece plus shipping

I think I'll have to pass on that one.  I'm sure there is some DOD regulation that I would be breaking.  And with all the busy bodies on this forum, I don't need the trouble.

Is the base supply store an AAFES facility or is this a uniquely AF thing?  Are retired military allowed to purchase there also?  Thanks.  (I'm retired military, that's why I'm wondering.)

Anyone holding a DOD ID card (AD, Ret, Dep) may make purchases in the store.  We have two in our area  - Ft Carson and Peterson AFB.  When our Local Purchase (LP) stores went away and our base supply became "civilianized", the Envision Xpress store came on board.  It is a for-profit enterprise run by civilians.  They mostly have office supplies, but recently have started to carry personal issue items and also M-16 and M-9 magazines.

So a 'For profit store' is selling NIW magazines for $11.81 each.

When are the NIW magazines here going to get to that? Or have I missed them?

Tapco is selling new USGI 30's for $11.99   - www.tapco.com

The Tapco mags are made by D&H (formerly Labelle) and look 100x better than the Okay mags because they have a quality teflon finish that doesn't scratch off.  I already picked up 30 mags from them and have 20 more on order because I was so impressed with the quality.

I did some research on the Okay mag DoD contract.  The Gov. pays somewhere between $6-7.00 per copy but they do order in quanity.  This contract detailed delivery info and showed that Uncle Sugar was having hundreds of thousands of mags delivered at a time. I found this info by googling the 13 digit product code on the Okay mag box

Why would you worry about mag finish anyway?

I'll trade you some mags for them if you don't like them.

You're right.  The BX/PX/AAFES doesn't carry them.  You need to find out if your base/post has an "Envision Xpress" store.  I'm not sure how widespread they have become in the CONUS.  I think they are mainly out here in the West.

I checked and it appears to be a JWOD supply type store at your location (Peterson AFB??) and we have something similar but I think you cannot purchase anything without a gov't JON. I've seen USGI rifle slings and patches sold in our store but not mags. I may have to ask them for the mags as they might not be put on the shelf?

Did you have to show your military ID?
Link Posted: 10/13/2004 2:27:11 PM EDT
[#16]
Envision sells JWOD approved items.  I am a regular customer at the store because I buy items for my unit, so I didn't have to show my ID card (plus I am always in uniform when I go to the store anyway).

But the answer is yes, they do ask for military ID if you are not known to the store employees.

It's probably against some type of DoD policy so I'll just pass...

I sent a relative who is retired army.  Went into the envision express in Millington TN.  Asked for mags.  They all looked at him like he's crazy.  He asks again if they have magazines "under personal equipment maybe".  They look up the SKU, say "oh here it is" and then tell him NO envision expresses have any in stock.  He asks if they can order some and he gets the blank look again.  From the response he got I doubt they even ordered any more.  They took his contact info and are supposed to call him if they can get some.  Anyhow, TENNVOL, did you buy out the store on your base?  I could understand one or two of them being sold out, but every store?

WM69 I was at milington Monday getting my Dependant ID renewed and my dad and I stopped by the evision express store and there were no mags to be found either. What s up with this? would there be a store at Fort Cambell that would sell any mags because I am only a gew hours from there

Call the store and tell them you wish to order some.  Maybe if enough people request them they'll get some in.  I cancelled my order with Tapco too thinking I'd get OK's quicker.  That'll teach me to count my chickens....  Guess I can reorder but now I've missed out on the Dec order.  Hoping I can get some through the base.

Up until last Monday (Columbus Day), the store at Ft Carson had around 150 M-16 mags and about 120 M-9 mags.  I originally only bought the five M-16 mags you saw pictured.  I shop at the Envision store here at Peterson AFB weekly and was BS'ing with the regional manager asking him when they were going to get in the ten M-16 mags I had on backorder.  He said the Army has soaked up almost all of the M-16/M-9 mags out there and with the AWB sunsetting, it will be awhile before the supply system can catch up.  Unfortunately I let it slip the store at Ft Carson had several in stock.  When I went back to the Ft Carson store the next duty day, they had shipped all of their mags to our store to fill USAF backorders. That will teach me to keep my mouth shut.  The mgr did hook me up with the ten I had backordered, but the rest were gone that day.
I will let you guys know when they eventually get their supplies back up to speed.
