I think there is a law against post Sept '94 mags, so I don't think LEO mags are legal here.  What's going to happen when UNMARKED mags come out???  How will Gov. Pataki know they are post '94 mags????

Unless I'm mistaken, all new ones have/would have to be date coded.

if they are not marked, they will probably just say that they are illegal;

just to be on the safe side

If not marked they would be illeagal?  That describes every mag I own. (all preban)

Correct, but it IS required for US military contract mags to be marked with production date and CAGE code, so this WILL affect USGI AR mags (and Beretta mags).

but USGI contractors can sell USGI mags to civilians without those codes.  Plus Klinton ended the Military surplus so we can forget about military surplus mags

Aimless, I'm quite aware that post '94 mags are not legal in NY.  My question is how do New Yorkers protect themselves from becoming evil, nasty felons by acquiring those "killing machine" large capacity mags if all new ones are not marked.  There will be no way of knowing which are OK and which will get you thrown into the slammer.

Im sure the price of pre-ban mags has come down considerable....just by up someones NIW prebans....I KNOW there are TONS floating around....and with tapco selling mags at 12 bucks Im sure the NIW prebans should settle around there...now that people in 40+ states dont have to worry bout pre/post there should be ALOT of preban new/used mags getting sold off.

I have a number of preban mags, some NIW and others VG to EX condition.

I would be more than willing to sell them to someone in occupied territory.  Even if I ended up with half the mags I had before, I could upgrade to NIW no-ban mags.

Someone should start a NY mag exchange thread in the mags forum and link it hear.

Just a thought.

Corey

EDITED to fix typo.

In NJ you still cant get larger than 15rds?

fulton armory woulden't ship preban mags to MD, NJ, HI, or CA as far as I remember, so these places still cant get them?

Link it here though, otherwise I'll never hear about it.

I think that someone should also come up with some "standardized" price for preban mags (in various conditions).  That way we're all on the same page and no one is pointing fingers at anyone else.

I too live in a free state for cost of mags + shipping I'd be willing to nab a few for someone as well.

I have 24 pre-ban magazines that I would have no problem selling to your NY'ers so long as I can get new*ish* mags to replace them with for the same price.  Meaning if I dont lose mags or money, I'm all for it.  Find the cheapest new mil-spec mags, I'll buy those up, and sell my old ones for whatever the new ones cost me, plus shipping.  If anyone is interested, let me know via IM or email.

I have two Sanchez 30 round mags that are unserviceable.  One won't fit any of my ARs and the other is damaged.  They came in bags date marked 9/89.

Would it be legal for me to donate the bodies to some poor soul in NY so that they can rebuild them?  I don't see why not.  However, even if it's legal, with the prices coming down the way they are it might be cheaper for them to just buy NIW pre-94 mags!

With sending USPS mail, not UPS and ordering a couple new 30rnd bodies, this may equate around the same cost of a NIW preban...  If you have two 30 rounders you'd donate for a NY'er to rebuild, I'd certainly cover the cost for shipping and all...  I think someone (CMMG?) was selling bodies for $13 IIRC...  I'd say you could just send the baseplates...but it sounds like the whole body would need to be kept for rebuild verification.  IM me if your interested in doing this.

Thanks,
ar15_finatik

On 2nd thought...probably not, the bodies don't seem to be available anywhere 8-(
