The military is still using the same molybdenum dry film lubricant (1940s technology) as a magazine finish, the same as they've been using since the early 60's. The only difference is the application method; starting in the late 80s, they went from spraying to dipping, which does a better job with less waste.
The DH Industries (formerly General Stamping, which was formerly La Belle) still uses the moly lube for military contracts as required by the Mil-Spec, but they aren't required to use Mil-Spec finishes for
commercial mags. This is good for us, because the teflon-based finish is far more durable and is a far better dry lubricant, so the follower will ride smoothly in the mag.
