Stuck with the Pataki Ban here in NY State, so I've jumped on as many pre-ban mags I can afford. They have to last me as long as I live here. I have:
10 SA80 mags (4 in use, 6 stored)
30 USGI Labelle Teflon mags (4 in use, 26 stored)
These mags are used both in my Bushy 16" carbine and my SU16, plus I'm considering jumping on a 20" A3 Bushy for the "arsenal". I may pick up another 10 Labelle Teflons - these mags are awesome. The steel SA80 take up the bulk of the cycles at the range, my thought is they will stand up to more use and abuse than the aluminum USGI mags.
My fear is that after the Clinton Ban expires, the ban in NY State on regular capacity (20 to 30rds) magazines will be virtually impossible to enforce and in a knee-jerk reaction the state's politicians will eventually ban the sale and shipping of all regular capacity mags to NYS or they will require "proof" that one has owned such mags prior to any future ban on the possession and purchase of such mags. The very worst scenario would see NYS mag whores like myself totally banned from the possession of such magazines for their EBRs.
In the meantime I have stocked up on ~20 metric mags for my FAL; 5 E. German 30rd steel mags, 5 20rd "Tanker" mags, 5 30rd Polish polymer mags, 10 Bulgarian 30rd steel mags, 15 Bulgarian 30rd polymer "waffle" mags for my SA M7(S), PLUS I have 15 "Type 57" magazines for a rifle I don't even own or have near term plans to purchase - M1A/M14 - I figure it at least gives me options in case I want to go with an M1A or even an Armalite AR10 in the future.
I figure better to buy mags (and EBRs) now while they are relatively inexpensive and available, rather than wait until NYS's ban is made even more draconian, or a new national AWB is passed upon a change of majority in the House of Representatives.
