well I do live in CA, but have family in Missouri. I have them buy me cool stuff and then when I go visit I get play with it, I cant wait till I move to Arizona and get to go pick it all up. And yes i will have a beta-c mag waitign for me next time I fly out there.

Every C-Mag that I've ever used ran great, without a hiccup.
They can be a bit heavy when fully loaded. Excellent for full-auto, with the gun on a bipod. Doesn't lock the bolt open on the last round. For the new upcoming low prices, I think it is a good item. |

AR15's are designed to be fast and accurate. 30 rounds should be more than enough. Why weigh a carbine down with ammo. Carry extra mags on your vest. Plus, if 30-rounds can't get you out of a fix, chances are you'll be gone long before you and your extra 60 rounds can run away.
If you just want to unload at the range, by all means, spend the extra money for it!

IF I was going to get one, which I seriouslt doubt I would, The only thing it would be good for is prairie dog hunting where it could be used on a bench set up. Other than that I would say it would be a waste of money

I'd rather have 3 30-round mags than one Beta. From all the stories I've heard about poor performance, prone to breaking if dropped while loaded, etc. I just think it would be a waste UNLESS I was shooting FA using a bipod. It's got the cool factor, but I just don't think it is practical.

Got two drums now that I don't use. Too heavy when loaded. Magazines are much better. Drums are for cool factor only.

I was at an emma gee shoot this weekend. Fitted by 614 with a 10.5" shorty upper and a c-mag. Mag dumps where awesome: like cheap women - LOUD, FLASHY and FAST and like good sex - 100 rounds lasts a lot longer than 30.
Mag ran great, after a few reloads we did need to use the graphite dry lube. For $250 I think it would be great for full auto range use. |

I won't get one.
I would much prefer getting 10-20, 30 round mags. That way I could afford to lose a mag.... Think about it, 1-100 round mag jams you're out 100 rounds. 1-30 round mag jams- your out 30 rounds and can easily grab another 30. As to the fire-power aspect of it, 100 round in a single Beta C vs. 300-600 rounds in 10-20, 30 round mags. The only reason I would get a Beta is the cool factor. Maybe one day I'll change my mind but in the mean time I'll stick with 20s & 30s. This is obviously a big case of "To each his own". Sly |

Over the last few years, the prices on C-Mags have been ridiculous, so there has been some resentment over that.
Alot of people talk themselves out of buying one, because it was very expensive, and there's all kinds of "reasons" that can be thought-up to justify not spending the money. But soon, they will be reasonable again, and I think you'll see alot more people using them at this lower price. They DO work, and they ARE fun. And they do look REALLY COOL! But, it is really best for full auto use, and is marginal for semi-auto use. The two biggest drawbacks are the loaded weight, and no last round bolt -hold-open. If you keep it reasonably clean, and periodically lube it with graphite, it will run like the daylights. |

I'm getting 4 and I don't give a damn if they work or not. One will be to play with and when the ban comes back and is even worse, and the prices of those mags go through the roof, then I'll sell and cry all the way to the bank. If it goes like most of my "investments" and the AWB never comes back, you all can thank me then and I will gladly eat $1000 to never have to worry about magazine capacity and other stupid stuff that makes up the current AWB.

I think I rather have the equivalent price of a Beta-C in USGI 30's (which should net me at least 10). I'm a cheapskate...I have to look at the $/round loaded ratio (which is like 2.5 for the Beta and 0.8 for the USGIs). The lower the ratio, the better.

would like to get one but for $250 I can buy 21 of the 30rd usgi mags around here, as for the cool factor .... well it would only be worth it if I had a class three rifle, also I can't see mags getting any cheaper after the ban as all the suppliers are getting what they want for them now, and if kerry gets elected he's already said that he's going to enforce the ban again and make it harder to get the surplus ones, so I'm buying rebuild kits for the mags I've got.

Drop a Beta on a hard surface and watch it break. No thanks. I'll stick with my 20 and 30rd mags for my AR. Even on FA, the idea is not to pray and spray, so THAT novelty will wear off quickly of having to lug all the extra weight around. A good chest pouch and plenty of mags is all anyone needs.

I'm on my second beta, never had a malf or broken anything yet. I havent dropped it off a rooftop onto concrete either. If I were doing any **serious** work maybe not but like 99.9% of everyone else my **serious** is limited to plinking and the beta is great. Heavy, rattles, always works. Love em.

I don't see any reason why they would NOT reach $1K or even higher if a permanent ban comes out. Crap, I saw several sell in the last year for over $700 and that was when the ban had a sunset date. Granted, most did not think it would, but if made permanent with no sunset possible, in a few years people will be thinking $1K is cheap for a C-mag. I remember when a M-16 was $1K and only wish I had bought 4 or 5 of them then. Look at what a used, beat up M-16 brings now. Hardly anybody ever would have thought that even a year or two AFTER the 86 ban.

I got two, one still in wrapper, unopened...
Great fun at the range, and it lets you get prone with more ammo, easier. Try going prone and staying low with a 30 in the magwell. Yep, it's heavy and noisy. Another upshot is that you can load it all the way up and store it loaded, and it'll be ready to go whenever you need it. It doesn't take a set, like other drums do when they're loaded and ready to go for months at a time. Last time I loaded it up and left it, it sat loaded for a year. Took it out and emptied it without a single problem. I'm actually considering selling the unopened one, cause I never used it and don't see a reason why I would...NY residents only need apply, as other states get cheap/new ones post-ban (and yes, real ones come with documentation stating their manufacture date; this one has that card as well..) |

I'd say don't get one but qualify it with "Yet". If the mfg comes down to a more reasonable price ($100-150), I'd seriously think about it. As far as kewl factors go, a pile of loaded 30-rounders ain't nothin' to snicker at.....hippie.gif

Sold mine for $600bucks! It wouldn't function 100% so I sold it. It only cost me $240.00, no harm done.

During almost the entire ban, I wanted one, but not for what the going price was. Now, I feel it's just a waste of money and ammo. I don't bump fire my AR and I am buying several new formally restricted 30's. I'll probably get one if the price drops further as an investment.

i've never used one personally but i have seen 2 other people using them and from what i have seen they aren't reliable. i spent $161 on 14 new 30 round mags right here in the EE . thats 420 rounds of capacity.

Evil Ed.....One year??? One year????? I can hold my breath for that long. Come on!! Some guy a few years ago shot some .45 1911 mags he loaded right after WWII. (they worked flawlessly) Wait at least a decade or two!!
