I just picked up a couple of mags at my local shop. They told me that they were 20rnd USGI mags.  When I got them home and loaded them, they will accept 24rnds of .223.  The mags do not have any markings on them that I can see. They have black plastic followers.  Any body have any ideas what is up with these mags?

No, that is just what the guy told me. Tho he also told me they were USGI and after reading the FAQ i suspect they are USA mags.  Do they even make a 24rnd mag?

Look in this pic most of the mags in it are 30 round mags.  Look at the bottom left and you'll see 3 mags side by side that are shorter than the other 30 rounders.  Those are 20 round mags.  Which do you have?

What markings are on yor mags?  Have you taken it apart to see if there is a block or something?  No USA didn't make any 24 round mags.  I don't think anyone made 24 round mags.  Sounds like it's probably a blocked 30 round mag.

The mags in question look like the one in the bottom left of your pic. They are shorter than the 30's they have round holes, black follower. They have no writing on them at all. they do not appear to be blocked.  For some reason I can get 24 rounds in them.  Could they be USA 20 rounders with a really crappy spring in them?

The mag on the bottom left looks like a bushy 10rd mag.
Do your mags have a slight curve to them? Like, say you could lay it over a 30 and it would have the same profile but be shorter.

Yeah the very bottom left mag is a BM ten rounder.  The 20 round colt mags are the ones under the barrel.

Here is a pic of one of the mags in question.  It is maybe 3/4 as tall as my labelle 30 rounders.

I have a couple of USA mags like you describe.  They both hold 24 rounds.  I think you got reamed.
