Would a person be able to take his USA brand(or whatever) crap doorstop, paperweight, target mags and be able to use CMMG mag bodies to lawfully repair the crappers? Of course keep the old parts as proof of possession?

Yes sir!

That's precisely what AR-10 shooters have been doing for quite a while with 20 round M-14 mags.

Retain the old preban mag body as proof that you didn't build a new high capacity magazine, and everything else can be thrown away.
