The poll seems to have left off a few options. No H&K mags? I personally know guys who swear by the USA brand mags.

I think ~90% of the people on this site can't legally own H&K mags.

Orlite and Thermold should be different catagories. Just because they're both nonmetallic doesn't make them equivelent[:D]
US Thermolds yes. Orlites, no. Canadian Thermolds? Range mags, but you can't leave them loaded for months, 'cause they swell out to the side. Not as much as Orlites, but enough to take 'em out of the serious use catagory. Ahh, but you US GI lovers, keep on buying those miracle paints to refinish 'em, and those spare mag bodies so you can rebuild 'em. Yup, you've helped to create a whole new industry [:D] |

I'm a USGI 20-rounder kind of guy. I now have 31 20-rounders and only 24 USGI 30-rounders. I've never thought much about the Orlites or Thermolds. However, I have a Canadian Thermold on the way thanks to Cody @ Magazine Specialties. Maybe this mag will change my mind.

Orlites aren't even in the same league as Thermold magazines. I have about 20 Thermold 30-rounders and haven't had a single problem with any of them...period. The Orlites, however, are a totally different story. I only have three Orlites and I do not even use them for range purposes.

I think you screwed up a bit...
You should have separated the USGIs & the Brits. Given, the USGIs would still win but it would not be as much of a landslide and it would give everyone a perspective on who thinks the Brit mags superior. IMHO Lumping Brit m,ags with USGIs is roughly equal to lumping USGIs to Thermolds. The difference (besides opinoons on reliability) is the material. |

20rd USGI fits me better at the range, but I'd choose the 30rd in the field. The shorter 20rd mag makes it simpler to rest on the box / sandbag given its shorter height. Besides, after sending a few mags of ammo down range without resting the rifle on something, 30rd strongs get to be too long for me to maintain m accuracy.

I prefer the USGI 20 round magazine. If you need more than 20 rounds, you better have the rest of your squad behind you, or you should sharpen you marksmanship skills. How many situations can you have where you need more than twenty rounds, except in the military?

I prefer the Orlites - light, no corrosion/finish to worry about, and much fewer problems than that P.O.S. U.S. manufactured Thermold I have. Maybe I got lucky with the Orlites and unlucky with the Thermold, but that is my experience. After that the black Brit steel, then everything else.

I've had both 20 and 30 rounders while serving as an SP in the USAF. Twenties were prefered for range work, qualification, and vehicle duty in Japan ('cause round count didn't matter since the bad guys weren't armed...most of the time!).
Thirty rounders were good for peace of mind (Korea and the Philipines) and for making it hard to enter/exit patrol units. They also tended to snag onto web gear a lot. As a civilian I now have Orlites and teflon USGIs. I have had 100% reliability in my Orlites, mainly due to the fact they were disassembled, inspected and cleaned after purchase. They're my main range mags and have also been used in tactical matches("low speed, high drag"). Teflon USGIs are flawless...Wolffe spring-enhancement helps, too. And the black mags (Orlites included) make the ol' black rifle look that much more wicked. Buy a teflon mag or two ($22-$25 per) and give 'em a try. I'd like to put a teflon/moly finish on one of the Brit SA80 steel mags and see how it holds up... |

I originally had a couple of U.S.G.I 20's & some British Radway Green 30's that I "obtained" free of charge.
I found the RG 30's appeared to be much poorer quality in terms of construction than the U.S G.I 20's & the follower design led to stoppages (that I haven't yet experienced with the 20's). So, the RG's got binned & I now stick solely to U.S.G.I 20's! Regards. John. |

I just recently started my collection of the British gray-ish 30rd mags, and all 6 that I have (so far), cycle without problems. I just got some green followers so an update will be due soon to hopefully head off any future feeding issues. J

John from GRB, I have found the "British" 30 round mags to quite reliable. I'm over 1200 rounds in 6 Brit mags.
I even like the rust finish,it sits well with a good oil coat. |

I prefer USGI 20 rounders for shooting prone and black teflon steel British 30 rounders for everything else. I have a few USGI 30s but I like the teflon Brit 30s more.
