I believe these mags were shipped with early Colt SP1 rifles. As far as value they may be worth a little more than a regular Colt 20rd mag if someone is looking for a matching mag for their SP1.

I rec'd 2 20 rd Colt mags with my AR15A2 HBAR R6600, one of which is marked this way.
Funny, when I traded the rifle I forgot to include the mags. |

These have aluminum followers? Black plastic followers are Colt's commercial mags.

Chuck yes the mags do have alloy followers, they are identical to the mid 1960s Colt military mags except for the "1" in a circle on the side of the mag near the floorplate. I have three of the Colt commercial (5.56) 20rd mags with black plastic followers. One of them still has the bar code sticker on it. Kobren.

I found several .223 Caliber Colt's mags, but none have the circle 1, or I couldn't see it [;)]. All mine are Universal Industries made for Colt's as marked on the front of the magazine. Identical to the 5.56mm marked Colt's mags (and those with UI floor plates).
No help to you, but I found a dozen new Thermolds in the same footlocker. -- Chuck |

Chuck, yes they have alloy followers. I also Colt 20's have a few with the black plastic followers.
They work fine, especially for the $5 each I gave for that sack of mags. |

You found some with a circle-1 on them too?
Where exactly is the mark, I've still got many .223 marked 1960s vintage mags, but didn't find any with the mark. I'll pull the rest and look if I know exactly where to look. -- Chuck |

Chuck when you check your Colt AR15 223 20rd mags the number "1" in a circle will be on the mag catch SIDE about an 1/8 of an inch from the floorplate. The circle is about a 1/4 inch wide. No "UI" marking on the mags and all the followers are alloy. My mags have gray floorplates. Kobren.

As Mark stated, these were 20-round alloy follower USGI-type mags, and were included with Colt SP-1s up through the early 80's. The electroless-nickel "ColtGuard" SP-1s came with a pair of "Circle-1"-stamped mags that were also finished in ColtGuard. All of the ones that I've seen have a deep stamp that can't be missed.

None of my 20's have the mark. All mine are USGI which were declared "excess" when we transisitioned to 30 round magazines. Only a few of us wanted the 20s, so I ended up with a few.

I'll stir the pot more, has anyone seen this: Early 20 rounders that were shipped with the SP1 each had a little round yellow sticker stuck to the mag. body written in with pen are the numbers "5" on the 5 rounder, and "20" on the 20 rounder. The 1964 SP1 I have came with two such magazines (they were the mags that came with the rifle). I guess the stickers could have been out on by the original owner but I have a feeling they came that way from the factory.

Checked out photos of the AR15 20rd mags in my copy of "The Black Rifle". Found a photo on page 379 of two mags with "1" in a circle, no info other then they are shown in a 40rd "piggyback" configuration with interlocking floorplates. Kobren.
