Hi all, I have been away from the AR world for a while, I have  a few Ar's in different configurations and I have always shot Win Q3131A ammo ( I used to get it for under $200 case ) I still have a lot left and I would say most of it is Mid 2000 Era. I have recently picked up a case of PMC X-Tac 855 62 Gr for around $550 and I can get the PMC X-Tac 193 55 G for around $500 a case. I was wondering what is the general thought about this ammo? Which is the better all around grain?  I have A a lot of Hornady rounds for Self Def and dedicated hunting rounds as well.  Thanks

I use a ton of it for training. I like it .

Sadly for me I stocked the living hell out of the m855 Israeli for ever. Then this ammo crap started and I cant use my ammo to shoot in classes, training or 3 gun runs because everyone uses steel so I had to buy a couple 1000 of the pmc 55gr. Its worked well for me.

It's very good military spec ammo.
The 193 is a 55 gr bullet and the 855 is a 62 gr. bullet. so depends on the barrel twist as to which one your rifle shoots better.
The m193 will tumble and fragmitate on impact with a soft target.
The 855 round was designed more for penetration, though I don't know if they are putting the material in that bullet for body armor penetration.

Yes, PMC is good shit.  I've used tons of both their 5.56 and 9mm.

It’s pretty good stuff. I’ve got a case and a half left over from when SG was selling them for $300.

PMC XTAC 62gr was my go to ammo when supplies were plentiful.

It’s reasonably priced and has always been noticeably more accurate for me than the vast majority of its competition(non match grade, military style ammo) like Lake City, Winchester etc.

The only other ammo I regularly buy is IMI.

I regret not buying more. In today's climate $500 is a great deal for a case

PMC brass is also very good for reloading.

Glad to hear it is decent stuff, I can not find anything else around at the moment and if I do the price is $1.00 a round or more. I may go pick another case up of the 52 G.

I have shot over 3000 round the X-TAC 55gr rounds and it is GTG. I also  bought 1000 rounds of X-TAC 62gr green tip rounds and I used some those for an AR training class. It shot quite well but did not do long range shots at that training class.

Shoots very good groups out of several of my AR's & usually patterns fairly close to where the Gold Dot ammo does in those AR's.

Is it really military spec though?

I understand it is a little slower than XM855 and others.

PMC is some of my favorite, cleanest ammo I've ever used.

It might be slightly slower... 20ish FPS in my tests, but it isn't blowing primers in some lots, like some other hugely popular imported brand.

For me... PMC XTac has been one of the most reliable 5.56 ammos out there.... basically being everything I expect.

I've never had an issue with IMI. My go mags are IMI 855.

What barrel length? The 62 grain, right?

X-Tac PMC crongraphed Very consistent thru several different rifles I tested, very little spread on velocity. Was very accurate for me in the 855.

X-Tac 62gr is very accurate in my rifles as compared to other brands of M855 and M193. I’ve only shot
X-Tac M193 in one of my rifles and I remember it being very accurate as well.

Generally speaking, M193 > M855 every time, so between the two I’d buy the 55gr.

Unless you need to penetrate armor.

Depends on what you're penetrating.

For personal protection, the faster bullet that tumbles and fragments is generally going to be a better choice than the bullet that was designed around penetrating Soviet Union standard issue steel helmets.
