Sorry about that, it just didn't really occur to me because there isn't much to see when the plate works. Just a tiny pinhole in the coating.

[Last Edit: Click2Boom] [#4]
I think wolf steel 6.5grendel would have the most benefit of any load at this point. We know there are 223 loads the mess things up. How about the 23cpr 6.5 grendel that so many of us are tempted to get a grendel bbl due to?

I mean, no brainer imo.

The 193, wolf gold, etc tests are more interesting to me than the fancy 75gr etc bonded stuff, because we basically know that it will kick butt already.

Another good one would be good old fgmm or other 69 SMK like ADI...  loads we can get/make for 50 or 60 cpr, that are multipurpose. 69 because it's '"fallen from favor" for 77gr... but how much worse terminally is it? I still like the 69gr pills that move a lil quicker.

But I'm virtually sure they would do fine.  100gr wolf grendel is the big one.

"Terminal ballistic testing of the 69 grain MatchKing loaded in the form of Federal’s 223M ammunition has been conducted by Dr. G.K. Roberts with the results of that testing published in Wound Ballistics Review, Volume 3, Number 4.  Fired from a Colt AR-15A2 carbine with a 16” barrel, the average penetration of the 69 grain MatchKing in 10% bare ordnance gelatin was 14.7”. The average recovered diameter was 0.40” and the average percentage of fragmentation was 60.2%." - Molon

do you have a a list of all the data so it could be "read" vs watched.

I know you post it in the videos but could you just have a thread with the type, mv, gel measuerments, and notesas to what you think about it.

Like

Mk318
velocity xxx
pen 23"
weight 32.5 gr
max expan .251"
length core .399
temp wound cavity .5" x 3"
notes: good frag with deep pentration, etc

No one is stopping you from gleaning that info and putting it in a post, but that sounds like it would mean fewer people actually watching the videos.

I purchase quite a bit of ammunition from Defender ammunition since they are a NC business and have great friendly staff.

I’m curious to see if their 9mm 147gr HP’s expand as well as they say they do. Should I send you some?

I’m hopin this can be my new carry ammo from the looks of it.

Any luck with the reduced velocity M855A1 gel test?

Recent claims by the Marine's say it's a 600m round:
“The M855A1 provides improved performance over the current M855, 5.56mm round in a lead-free form factor, and provides improved steel penetration, hard- and soft-target terminal effects, with more consistent terminal effects than the M855 at ranges out to 600 meters,” Woodburn told Marine Corps Times."

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2017/12/13/m855a1-epr-officially-adopted-us-marine-corps/

I'd be very happy if it fragmented at 1700fps, but 600m would be crazy - that's around 1250-1300fps.

I have a 10.5" upper and I plan to do another reduced velocity test soon. I doubt that it can fragment at 1,200 fps because Buffman tested it in 5.7x28mm at about that speed and it did not fragment.

I'm skeptical of the 1200-1300fps zone as well, it's just that the Marine's are calling it a 600m round. Just checked the Buffman video and it doesn't look like they fragmented, although the test was not perfect at they were keyholing out of the FsN.

If you can only test one velocity, I'd really like to see how it does at 1700fps, which would correspond to about 450 yards with the M4.

Not aware of the 16.5 velocity, but current quotes are over 3000fps from the 14.5. So lets say 3100fps from the M27?

With a 0.152 G7 BC at 3100fps, it would be getting 1350fps.

I'd be open to sending you some Fiocchi 40 grain ballistic tipped to test from your SBR set into gel.  I've chrono'd it at 3500-3800 from 18" & 20" (hot 80's to cold 15 led to spread).  Please LMK if you're able to do it and how many rounds you'd need.

The 40gr is going to penetrate very shallowly. Let's see if there is any interest from other members on that one.

I don't own a .458 upper.

Nosler 110g Varmageddon from your 8" 300.

I know you tested the anemic (1500fps) Freedom Munitions version that was too slow to expand, but I'm getting 1950fps from my 8" and Nosler told me that it expands down to 1600.

I've seen it tested in gel with a 10.5", but would like to see if it will net a little more penetration with the slower 8".

That was Hornady SST, but yeah, I can probably test some Varmageddon. Do you have some bullets? I could make a reduced velocity load to compare. No promises on how long it might be.

I could have sworn it was a v-max of some type.

PM the info, and I'll send out a box.

Reduced velocity would be nice, but I'd really like to see what these factory Nosler's do in gel out of your 8" as well.

Not sure how you could make this happen, but I'd gladly contribute financially.

Ever since I saw the first 50gr 2000FPS 9mm load, I've been thinking. Most of those loads don't penetrate much because they're designed to expand.

What if someone made essentially a 50gr solid copper 9mm bullet and loaded it to 2000 FPS? It would basically be a 9mm 50gr wadcutter with a plastic front to aid feeding. Or maybe just a really short FMJ and it'd eventually yaw 180° in flesh. We should get "rifle-like" damage.

Now, granted. 50g @2000 is pretty weaksauce for a rifle. And the wound profile would be a cone leading to a simple .38 special wadcutter-like wound near the end. But, heck, M193 ends up acting like a .22 after 8-9 inches.

I don't know if it would be super terminally effective, but I think it's an interesting concept.

Would it create an overall larger wound than an HST? Are there practical applications?

The Underwood .357 Sig 65gr Defender is a solid copper @ 2100fps.
https://underwoodammo.com/product/handgun-ammo/357-sig-65-grain-xtreme-defender/

That should provide an interesting data point that could foreshadow what is possible with a 50gr 2000fps copper solid.

Dare I suggest a Gel Test?

As always, excellent video on the oldie but still a goodie the Hornady 75gr BTHP. However, in the beginning, the question was posed of whether or not the reloading component matched the terminal ballistics of the 75gr TAP bullet with the fatter ogive. I would have assumed you were going to test the 75gr TAP bullet side by side with the T1C bullet. It would have been interesting to see the 2 bullets tested side by side, both over 24.0grs of TAC, out of the same barrel and under the same conditions to see if there was a difference.

As always there is some voodoo to gel testing and all we have to go on is DocGKRs word that Hornady 75gr TAP and 75gr Match pretty much the same but it would have been nice to see it illustrated.
