What is the most cost-effective option?
I assume something steel like wolf?

Depends on the price you can get, but usually yes wolf and tula steel cased is the most cost effective. Perfecta is pretty cheap too. I believe its made by fiocci.
Another cost effective ammo you may want to consider is federal aluminum cased. I find it for under $10 per box of 50 rnds at Walmart. Just can't reload it.

I use the red box Geco 9mm from AIM. Bought in bulk for like $11.25 a box plus shipping.

I used to use Silver Bear when it was cheap, but haven't seen that in a long time.

ETA: the EE on here has a listing for a case (500rnds) of blazer for $125 shipped

Its fine. Some pistols are pickier than others. My glock and m&p both run it great

My M&P runs it all day. Accurate too.

I buy whatever walmart has the cheapest and it all runs. I am starting to reload 9, soon I will only shoot my reloads.

I just got a box of the Federal aluminum stuff to try out in my G22, but I've shot steel/aluminum cased stuff for years in my G19 and had zero issues. The Wolf steel case FMJ is like $9.95 at my local Wal-Mart, it usually works well.

Otherwise I've always shot Winchester and Federal 115gr FMJ brass cased ammo. Nowadays you may be able to find something a little cheaper online.

SGA has Remington UMC for 11.49/box if you buy a min. of 10 boxes. Never had any issues with this in my Glocks,.

9mm ammo availability is good again, as are the prices back to normal. I only use brass, but anything less than $11 a box is a good price IMO. You can get a case for just over $200. That isn't cheap, but unless you have connections, $.20/per is the best you can do. Reloading will cost about the same, unless you use lead projectiles. I haven't been able to find good FMJ projectiles for much less than $.15/per since 2013.

Runs perfect in my glocks. I assumes this is just CCI blazer renamed..... which has always run 100% in everything I tried, including a CZ75.

Shooting with several other glock shooters, who all have the same experience with tula primers. About 2-3 out of every mag wont go bang. This is common from several striker fired pistols.

lucky gunner has tula, magtech, and brown bear for $220 per 1000, also they have my plinking preference 'military ballistic industries' $215 per thousand made in America and supports our police and military. also here in florida a company in Miami 'hawksight' makes practice ammo, all types, $210 per 1000 9mm. all fmj.

Locally $11/box for 9mm is the cheapest available, usually either Monarch steel from Academy or UMC/PMC from Walmart. For $1 more/box Academy sells Monarch brass. Reliability with steel varies, most of my 9mm pistols & rifles run steel just fine, but in .45acp I can run Wolf steel no problem in everything I have but half of those pistols choke on Silver bear .45acp. Some indoor ranges frown on steel ammo as well.

$11/box is 22 cents/round, $12/box is 24 cents/round. For 26 cents/round I just order bulk reloads, last batch was 147 gr +P for $130/500 rounds before shipping. The quality of the ammo is much nicer than the Monarch or UMC/PMC and I can get something besides just 115gr.

I'll buy whatever brass ammo I can find on sale for around $11/box, but I also buy remanufactured ammo from Freedom Munitions for plinking. They run specials all the time so I tend buy in bulk from them when the price is right.

I think I would rather avoid steel cased ammo with steel jackets, leading to slightly accelerated wear of the barrel / extractor / etc.

I've had good luck with Blazer stuff, as cheap as it gets. Down to 20 cents each.

Dick's sporting goods has Blazer Brass for 26 cents each FWIW. (350 round case for about 90)

My completed 9mm reloads run $.13-14/round with 115 FMJ, 124HP or 147FMJ bullets. Just have to keep eyes open and buy things on sale.

I don't know about "back to normal" prices, but availability is fine. And I guess $11 to $15 for "cheap" brass case is the NEW NORMAL. It wasn't that long ago that good brass range ammo was $6 to $8 a box (I have a case of Federal 124 gr NATO ammo that was $6 a box) and the steel was $4 or $5 a box. Inflation doesn't account for all of that change.

Rocky Mountain has plated 9mm for $70-80/1000 usually. They throw out a 10% off coupon every now and then and shipping is free.
I shoot their plated bullets in all my pistols as well as an NFA Thompson and MP-40 with no problems.

Never ordered from Freedom Munitions but they have 115 gr 9mm for $11/box or 500 rounds bulk for $100. If shipping is reasonable that's a pretty good price.
I just picked up some 147 gr 9mm +P reloads from North Georgia Reloading for $130/500 which I consider a pretty good deal, I've shot their 115 gr 9mm and 230 gr .45acp with good results. But I think their price is $130/500 across the board, whether it's 115 or 147 or +P or not.

The shipping is what hurts, SGammo has Speer Lawman 115 gr 9mm for under $12/box, cheaper than Academy Sports Monarch brass 115 gr 9mm. Last box of Speer lawman 9mm I saw at Academy was $15/box.

WalMart has aluminum cased 9mm 115 grain from Federal, which is the same as CCI Blazer, for $9.97 a box. Comes out to $10.79 out the door.

If I could find something cheaper than that out the door/to my door, I'd buy it. However, thus far, it doesn't exist.

The other day at Walmart I asked what the price is on the Perfecta ammo. He scanned a box and it was $10.49. I think the shelf label says $14.xx. I think this is brass cased ammo by Fiocchi. If so, this is a pretty good price I think for today and brass cased. Quantico Tactical has Blazer Brass for $229 per 1000, but they don't ship so it is only available if one of their stores is near you. One consideration is that most shipped ammo won't have sales tax, which can be significant.

I have been competing in pistol matches and 3gun for years now and almost exclusively using CCI Blazer aluminum. It is the most reliable, cheapest, AND accurate ammo I have found. Odd those three are all wrapped up together.

My handloads I shoot 147gr plated bullets. I don't find factory 147's all that lighter in recoil, I actually find the recoil too slow and long, while a nice light snap from a factory 115 allows me a faster follow-up shot. I played with both side by side for several hours, and decided on 115's for any factory ammo.

My Walmart just dropped the price on perfecta, to 10.97 a box, from 14.97 a box. Now it is reasonable. If they don't have Federal aluminum, that's my next choice.

Been buying the Winchester 100rd bulk boxes for a few years in 9mm and .40 from wally world and theisen's. If I planned better I'd buy 1000rd at a time but that's just me. Recently ww had Federal 100rd 9mm fmj boxes at competitive prices so I picked two up. Runs fine.

I use brass case only, collect it all. At some point either I will reload it myself or sort it into like manufacturer bags and sell it to other reloaders. Have all the equipment and reloaded enough to know I can do it right, now I'm just laying in components. Still under 10k rds brass for 9mm and .40 so I choose the lazy way for now. Bought enough primers back in the 2000 scare to keep me in primers for life, but need a decent source for bullets and powder.

Well, I just remembered that I do shoot steel case ammo. In the SKS. It's a cheap Chinese copy of a cheap Russian rifle and it shoots cheap Russian steel case Wolf ammo just fine.

I have preferences on ammo, but I've found that most stuff out there is pretty reliable. I prefer Blazer Brass on the low end, but for $1 to $2 more a box I'll buy ZQI NATO rounds. It also has a lot more snap to it and the ejected rounds fly much further. My all time favorite 9mm is IMI. I'll buy some of I'm also getting M193.

I still have a ton of American Eagle red box I bought in 2006-2007 for $120 a case at Sportsmans Guide. That was pretty much the norm then. Brass cased was $120-$140 and steel cased was $105-$110 a case.

The only trouble I've had recently is Monarch (Brown Bear) 115gr. I have 2-3 primer strikes with no destination per box. I thought it was my Glock 17, but it's leaving a really good dent in the primer.
