hey, i just got a box of this stuff and realized it wasnt what i had intended to get!! i looks like a hollow point round. no tip. is this stuff any good for coyotes? i cant find much on the net about them and what i did find suggested that they act similar to a fmj. i realize about shot placement and all but i do like a good mushroom! plus , for $27 per box?!?!?.....i can get fmj"s for $7 all day........

Is this the 5.56 stuff ?

Be careful running the "Superformance" 5.56 line in a Carbine length gas system.... watch for popped primers.

That said... here are my recorded velocities....

Horn. Sup. 5.56 55gr GMX.....HORNADY 5.56 NATO...16" Middie... Av. 3130, ES 44.......20" Rifle length..Av. 3201, ES 55..........................EXTREMELY FAST for a solid copper bullet.

Good accuracy.

The link shows a gelatin test...

Personally, I would prefer a faster expanding and cheaper bullet.... something like this..

Or ... given its very good current price....

thanks a ton!!! i'm with you on that. maybe i'll just put holes in paper with them. i was in a hurry and either i told him to grab the wrong box or he did it on his own. i'm gonna blame the guy.......

It's not FMJ, it's an all copper (actually I think it's 95%) expanding bullet, a direct ripoff of the Barnes TSX.

It wouldn't be my first choice for yotes, it's meant for deep penetration with good expansion.  I have a couple of boxes but haven't been able to put any on flesh yet, but I'd bet they act just like the TSX.

I still prefer Gold Dots for medium sized game, and VMax or NBT for yotes.

So this is a no-go in SBRs?

Do not waste them on paper... save them for "harder" targets. That is what they were designed for.

Car doors, auto glass.. etc.

I will add .... these shoot very accurately and might fit the bill for a Coyote round.... very inexpensively. Compared to your original paid price.. you can have 3 times the ammo. Rumor is that the bullet is made by Nosler.

There are at least three different Hornady factory loadings using the 55 grain GMX projectile that I've seen so far.

Sorry, I should have been more specific... I fired the 5.56 55gr GMX Superformance, and given its speed and bullet construction, that specific load gave me better then expected accuracy. I will add that my Chrono tests were far more concerned with FPS then the utmost accuracy of a given specific OEM round. So my accuracy results were noted and not always measured. Time did not permit a more through test. I will conduct a more through accuracy test at a later point.

More often then not, in my experience, the hot loads are not very accurate... even if the load is only 100fps faster then "normal". So the group I did see was better then I expected. About 2 MOA out of both the 16" V7 SS 1n7 Poly. FF Middie gas and 20" 1n7 PSA CHF SS FF rifle length gas barrels.
