Good ammo?

I got some for Christmas.

Don't have any "quality" ammo, per say.

(Before this).

Should I be afraid to shoot it?

Seems to run about a buck a round, a little more, maybe.

School me.

ETA: I don't post much in the technical forums, be gentle.

Find some long ranges (past 100 yards) and enjoy!

LOL

We use that stuff for any stages shot from the magazine, as compared to the single feed rounds which tend to be too long. The magazine rounds limit out at roughly 77 grains. We tend to run 80's on up out at 600 or longer.

The budget for Service Rifle or Highpower isn't cheap. The cost of factory ammo or reloading is one of the barriers to entry.

It's Mk 262.

Most excellent.

Very good stuff. It is good for HD and beyond 100 precision. Reliable, accurate, clean and good brass. I keep a couple of mags with it for HD. I used it for precision before I started reloading.

This is what I was thinking.

Keep a couple marked mags handy.

My skill level probably isn't what it needs to be to max out the ammo's capabilities.

I need to find a longer range.

And practice.

Yep. Keep just enough HD in mags for emergency and the rest cheaper bulk. I have 4 mags of HD ammo and 4 more mags with XM193. Plus all the bulk ammo I mentioned above for longer term storage. Not many can afford to keep 3000 TAP or MK262 around. At almost a dollar per bullet I would starve.

In my opinion it is the best ammo you can get for 5.56mm. It's what I have loaded into my magazines. I have personally seen one of the designated marine marksman use mk262 aka black hills 77gr OTM, and hit a Taliban fighter in the chest at 500m and with one shot he was dead.  Great ammo!!!!

You could say that.  The 10-shot group pictured below was fired from one of my match-grade AR-15s from a distance of 100 yards using the Black Hills 5.56mm 77 grain OTM load.  The group has an extreme spread of 0.98".

+1!!!

Great to see a long awaited post from one of the most sorely missed, true knowledge banks to grace this place. Excellent and thanks for brightening my otherwise crappy looking day!!!

Good to see you back, please stick around sir.

what barrel length and twist do you have?

hoping you have a 1in7 twist but run some through to make sure it cycles and is flying straight then stash it away for the ZA.

It also has a great reputation in the Shorty's - MK18's, Commando's and M4's (OK, so the M4 is not THAT short).

It's my go to round as well
