Does anyone have a line on some reasonably priced 7.62 ammo? I have looked everywhere for some reasonably priced surplus and all I can find is expensive (close to $1 a round) match. I know ammo has gone up, but come on this is a little ridiculous.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I just bought a DPMS Recon in .308 and was looking for the same thing..

I looking for something that was NOT surplus, brass cased and non corrosive.. It also had to NOT void the DPMS warranty - which all of the ones below seemed to meet.

The best 'value' I could find was Georgia Arms 'canned heat' - it was about $0.61/rd.. bought 250 rds 150 (or 147) gr fmj for $152 at a gun show..

The next best value was the PMC (most places were out of stock) and then was the Acadamy Sports house brand in brass (closest one is 300 miles from me, but my inlaws live near one and we visit every few months)

Good luck

Brian

You will have to do some footwork.  Smaller out of the way places still have some battlepacks.  Larger retailers  The EE and individuals are still selling @ .50/ea. or a little higher.  Boxed FMJ stuff is 17-19 bucks/20rds.  Have not seen any "white" boxed stuff in awhile.  Keep an eye on KSL.com there are some smaller ammo manufactures that are making it.

Widener's has the PPUM80 200 RND FACTORY SEALED CLEAR PACK OF 308 145GR FMJBT AMMO $115.00/200. Its the white box re-loadable stuff that was around several months ago. Price is still pretty good.

out of stock has been that way for a while. The lack of affordable 308 ammo has kept me from buying a scar

This about your best bet short of:

1) reloading

2) Time Machine

Sportsman's guide rejects? I'm sure you will find some "gems" in your loose packed treasure.

Expect to pay $100 shipping per K.  Samco's shipping costs are crazy stupid

Last time I bought from them was 2 years ago.

As I recall shipping was about $40 a case. Some rounds had a little tarnish, but gtg.

Check Cabelas if you have a local one or online if you don't have a local store. They have a pretty good assortment and some is very reasonable, for 308. They had 150gr American Eagle 200 rds for $169.99. The have a couple of brands for the same price for 200 rds.

Just watch what you are buying.

A buddy of mine came to the range with some Peruvian surplus 308 and attempted to shoot them.  He was having extraction problem and when I looked at the case, there were obvious signs of overpressure with extractor swipes and clear signs of cratering.  The next one he shot it jammed in his chamber and we had to knock it out.  One of the old timer at the range showed us the tarnish marks on the case that showed the rounds being machine gun rounds that had been stripped from a linked belt which are apparently too hot for a rifle.  It was a POF that he recently brought from a friend and it could have been a short ownership.

it seems like a debauchery, now... we spent money like drunken sailors

while it was cheap, and now we wish we had it all back.

but it is gone, never to return. alas.

Freedom Munitions, choice of bullets, copper jacket or steel jacket, reloads or new. $10.39/20 reloaded, looks like out of stock on new. I have not shot their 308, but the 223 worked fine.

$1/rd should get you 168 gr Federal GMM, which is good to compare against. Not the best, but pretty good.

Freedom .308 ammo is good to go, it's accurate, not terribly hot [leaves the brass nice] BUT they do not package their ammo nearly so conveniently as shown on their website... it's four 5 round boxes inside the 20 round boxes.  Not a big thing until you are reloading your mags for a big rifle stage, the wind kicks up and the RO gives you crap for all of the stupid little 5 round boxes that are blowing all over - and there are a dozen or so you have to chase down....

I remember being mad when a local shop increased his price of SA .308 to $3.99 each per-box , or $25 per battlepack...  I was happy that I had bought everything I could find at $2.99 per or $20 /BP...

Well, PPU is not decades-old surplus, it is new ammo. Serbian, to be sure, but new, and $550/1000 is less than American Eagle. Ammo is expensive now due to election year buying.

American Eagle is $.80 a round on average right now. This Prvi is $.55 a round. Almost all other 7.62 is running $.70-.75 a round on sale. What am I missing here?

Hmmm...you must be right. Overpriced compared to what? Since you are so knowing...why don't you share with us a link to fresh factory ammo that is brass cased and re-loadable that also costs substantially less?

Wow...you must work for Obama. You post "1,000rds (50 boxes): $547.50.. Now you say you know nothing about price. Dude...go choke yourself. You are an idiot.
