Are you planning on using it strictly for self defense or is there a good chance you would take some game with it as well?

coyotes, bears, cougars, other stuff.. just want to be prepaired if i go take a piss at night and something comes after me. i got a streamlight on my ar for night. but i need something that will take down any potential threats.

LE127 OO Buck and a Mossberg 590A1.
 Seriously, a 30 mag w/ M855 should cover any critter besides a Grizz.

69 or 75gr OTM/BTHP or a Federal 55/62gr bonded bullet.
There is a big difference between ammo you'd use for a human/cougar and a bear. |

A 69gr OTM or a 62-64 gr SP would be fine for a cougar, coyote, or person. For a bear, I'd go with a 12 gauge and slugs at a minimum.
